Do you remember Alfie Moon? Do you recall his true love, Kat Slater? Does your memory recollect their interminable on-off romance – the will they / won’t they plotline that seemed to go on for several decades?
Well, remember no more! The pair of them are coming back to Albert Square at the end of 2010.
Jessie Wallace who plays Kat said:
“I’ve really enjoyed playing different roles over the last few years but am excited to slip back into Kat Slater’s stilettos. I’ve missed her.”
And we’ve enjoyed you in all those different roles too Kat I mean Jessie- even if we can’t remember any of them.
Shane Richie – he who is Alfie – spoke up too:
“More than anything I’m looking forward to getting my face covered in Kat’s lipstick again!”
More than anything, we’re thankful you’re going to be too busy with ‘Enders to make another ill-judged ‘reboot’ of Minder, Mr. Richie.

More than anything I’m looking forward to getting my **** covered in Kat’s lipstick again!
One of the only times I have chuckled watching the show was when Alfie first appeared. He was in the cafe blagging a meal and was asked what he did. He said that he was doing research on the introduction of buffet cars on the tube. Jim Branning was quite impressed with the idea.
Where is everyone today?
I thought WWMs people loved Eastenders (for some reason)
They’re probably all listening (and chuckling) to my new podcast Mr Green….
Shhhhh, there’s a really hot FX swaps analyst on CNBC right now, Mr Green.
FINE Nick, I’ll listen to your sodding podcast. But if it’s shit i’m going to be sorely pissed.
You could join Naps, who also doesn’t listen to it despite the fact that he’s in it. TWICE
As a champion of unsigned musicians from Southampton and surrounding areas I supposed you’ve had Lord Lav on at some point?
No.
Southampton has a very vibrant, diverse and busy music scene. There are loads of em. Thankfully.
That is one of the best screen grabs ever done. They look like they’re at the end of Police Squad!
The episode where Kat and Alfie eventually got together was genuinely quite saucy IIRC.
Hooray! Alfie was a great character. This is even better news than when I found out Grant ‘Afghanistan’ Kemp’s coming back for the live episode on the 18th. Hooray!

It must have changed alot since I lived there then. Or maybe too many open mic nights at the Talking Heads has corrupted my memory.
Have the Wurzels played at the Hobbit recently?
Sorry, the 19th. Hooray!
The Candle Club IS still going (gawd ‘elp us) Those bloody traffic lights!
It’s taken me a while but I have now managed to find the good stuff…
The Hobbit and The Bent Brief had good open mic nights. Never really found anywhere in town that had a good one though. Plus if you go every week you tend to find people playing the same bad covers over and over again a little annoying. You’re not one of those, are you Nick?
My favourite Alfie memory is of it cutting to him in the Vic, surrounded by a bevy of ladies, finishing a joke with “so i said – not with one leg you won’t!” to much hilarity.
Alfie was a great character and Richie did a good job. A rare example of a not-particularly-well-liked celebrity coming into the show and making his role a favourite.

Don’t see also: Bobby Davro
I had high hopes for Davro. Unfortunately, the writers didn’t do anything with him and he immediately became Winston with dialogue. A shame, as he could have been the new Alfie Moon if they’d actually bothered to write a character around him.
I don’t do covers Mr Green and I tend to avoid open mic nights for the reasons you mentioned. The Mono and The Soul Cellar are the best places to play…
*continues talking about Southampton*
I loved Mono. But mainly for the pizza’s and booze (and because it was behind Rymans, where I worked, close to the booze). The only music I ever knew there was hip-hop. When did they start having good music? I assume you play good music…
Soul Cellar’s ok too. Not great as a bar but the upstairs area is really good for music. We had some fund raisers there a few times. It got quite busy and a few people fell down the stairs. Ahh, the memories are all flooding back now.
Downstairs at The Soul Cellar CAN be fun
Both Mono and 90 DEgrees can be fun
Had you been playing there 4 years ago I would have been one of those students… don’t know about ‘bright young thing’ though.
Best venue in Southampton?
I’m gunna say probably the Joiners (arms)
Only been there the once, years ago. Saw The Average White Band and they were…
