Yordano Ventura, Kansas City Royals pitcher, killed in accident

Kansas City Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura was killed Saturday in a auto wreck in his native Dominican Republic, the team said Sunday. In a separate auto crash also in the Dominican Republic, former Major League infielder Andy Marte was killed.

Ventura always played with a sense of confidence, flair, emotion, passion for the game and innate desire to be great.

Dominican police confirmed the death of Ventura to the Royals.

After signing a meager $28,000 deal as an global free agent in 2008, Ventura rose through the Kansas City farm system aided by his blazing fastball.

Referred to as "The Kid" on the World Series broadcast, Ventura pitched seven innings of one run baseball in game two of the ALDS, his first postseason start.

"#RIPAce" - Ace, of course, being Ventura's nickname.

"Our prayers right now are with Yordano's family as we mourn this young man's passing", Moore said in the team's statement. There was plenty of time in his career to get him on the right track again with his pitching.

Betsy DeVos Education Secretary Confirmation Hearing
The 59-year-old DeVos also plans, if confirmed, to tackle the rising costs of higher education and massive student debt. Unsurprisingly, DeVos wants to immediately reverse the Obama administration's hard-won protections for LGBTQ students.

According to Baseball Reference, Marte's last major-league appearance came with the Diamondbacks on August 6, 2014, against the Royals.

Ventura, a 5-foot-11 flame-throwing starting pitcher, was 38-31 with a 3.89 ERA in parts of three seasons with the Royals.

In recent years, we have lost former and current players such as Oscar Taveras, Jose Fernandez, Darryl Kile, Nick Adenhart, Tommy Hanson, and many others who I can not recall right now.

News broke one early Sunday morning that the St. Louis Cardinals had lost their young phenom Oscar Taveras to a senseless auto accident.
