GOOG: $26 billion in Q4 revenue beats expectations but earnings down

Alphabet stated that the profit surged because of mobile search and video sharing on YouTube.

The Google business (search, ads, maps, apps, cloud, Play, YouTube, Android, virtual reality, etc.) was responsible for $25.8 billion in operating income this past quarter (up from $21.2 billion last year) and $7.9 billion in profits (up from $6.7 billion last year).

The business has a 50 day moving average of 817.85 and a 200 day moving average of 798.18 whilst the 52 week high shares of Alphabet Inc have reached is 867 and the 52 week low is 672.66.

The company's advertising revenue advanced more than 17% to $22.4bn during the final three months of 2016.

Alphabet spent much of the past year narrowing the number of those bets, including shelving a delivery-drone project, scaling back its Google Fiber Internet-access service, and spinning its self-driving auto technology off as a separate entity called Waymo. Just in case there was any doubt, Alphabet is a search and advertising company through and through.

At $26.1 billion, Alphabet's gross revenue was up 22 percent over the fourth quarter of 2015, and beat expectations. The share of PLA traffic coming from search partners as opposed to Google itself increased to 10% from from 6% in the equivalent period past year, Merkle said. Other Bets capital expenditures were $504 million for the quarter, primarily reflecting investment in the Fiber business.

Outside of YouTube, other focuses for Google and parent Alphabet going forward include mobile search and automated ad buying, with CFO Porat noting on the earnings call that there are "sizable opportunities that have not yet been tapped" in these areas, per the Journal.

Hattiesburg Salvation Army damaged during Saturday tornado
Mississippi Power crews are assessing damage and working to restore power in the areas that are safe for them to work. Officials warned of downed power lines and debris spread over large areas and urged people to avoid traveling.

The technology giant saw overall revenue increase by 22% to 26.1 billion United States dollars (£20.7bn) on the same period past year, while net income was also up to more than 5.3 billion dollars (£4.2bn).

Paid clicks, or clicks on Google ads, rose 36 per cent, compared with a 33 per cent increase in the third quarter.

Starbucks (SBUX). the world's largest coffee retailer, cut its revenue outlook for the year after quarterly sales missed estimates due to weaker-than-expected same-store sales growth in the first quarter.

However, its other bets are still making losses, albeit at a lesser pace.

Alphabet has roughly $86 billion in cash and marketable securities. Furthermore, aggregate cost per click declined by 15% during the quarter.

Earnings season is upon us once again folks and this time it's Google's turn for the spotlight.
