Khamenei aide says Iran won't yield to 'inexperienced' Trump

President Obama announces Iran nuclear deal

"Iran does not need permission from any country to defend itself", he added.

Iran's ballistic missile test this week-the latest in a series of about 12 tests since the nuclear deal was announced-is "in defiance of [United Nations] Security Council Resolution 2231, which calls upon Iran 'not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles created to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology, '" Flynn said.

"As of today, we are officially putting Iran on notice", the statement from national security adviser Michael Flynn said.

Trump tweeted earlier that morning "Iran has been formally PUT ON NOTICE" for reportedly testing a new weapon last weekend. He said Iran's test was the latest in a series of provocative actions that had destabilized the region and violated United Nations resolutions.

Former Central Intelligence Agency Director David Petraeus, testifying to the House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday, said ending the nuclear deal would leave the US isolated.

Speaking in the background, a senior White House official called Iran's missile test "highly provocative" and warned that Tehran was attempting to destabilise the region through its support for Houthi rebels, which it said risked "intensifying the conflict in Yemen". The sanctions were said to have been in the works for some time, and Sunday's missile test convinced President Donald Trump to trigger them.

The historic agreement offered Iran sanctions relief in exchange for greater restrictions on its nuclear energy program.

The U.S. military said it has not changed its presence in the waters near Iran.

Austrian government moves to ban full-face veil
According to Chancellor Christian Kern, the ban will be implemented over the next 18 months, The Sun reported . It is now a draft law, but the ban is due to come into force before the next parliamentary vote in 2018.

The White House put Iran "on notice" on Wednesday for test-firing a ballistic missile and said it was reviewing how to respond, taking an aggressive posture toward Tehran.

The ballistic missile that was tested could've theoretically been carrying a nuclear warhead.

Mr Trump's election victory appears to be emboldening Republicans who have long criticised the 2015 nuclear accord with Iran but were stymied in their efforts to undermine it by the Obama administration. And without anyone standing shoulder-to-shoulder with President Trump, could this be read as a pretty empty threat?

The US statement was created to send a message to Tehran to stop its provocative behaviour, said a senior US official, who spoke about the remarks on condition of anonymity.

Iran has missiles with a range of up to 2,000 kilometres (1,250 miles), sufficient to reach Israel as well as United States bases in the region.

President Trump has frequently called the Iranian nuclear deal a "disaster" and has vowed to negotiate a new deal.

Analysts said Iran could interpret Flynn's warning as bluster given that the Trump administration is still formulating a response.
