White House Defends Holocaust Statement That Doesn't Mention Jews
In addition to issuing an executive order banning refugees in general and adherents of one religion in particular, the Trump administration observed International Holocaust Remembrance Day by releasing a statement that didn't mention Jews, six million of whom died in the Holocaust.
"When you have the chief political adviser in the White House, Steve Bannon, who is connected with a news organization that traffics in white supremacy and anti-Semitism, and they put out a Holocaust statement that omits any mention of Jews".
In today's episode of Sean Spicer Is Making Sense!, we have the White House mouthpiece trying to explain his way out of the mess the administration made out of Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Spicer also said that complaints, including from major U.S. Jewish groups, about the omission of Jews from the statement issued Friday were "pathetic" and "disappointing".
Friday's statement attributed to President Trump honored "the victims, survivors, heroes of the Holocaust", and remembered "the depravity and horror inflicted on innocent people by Nazi terror".
Jewish critics have said that omitting Jews from Holocaust commemoration statements, wittingly or not, plays into the agenda of groups that seek to diminish the Nazi genocide of the Jews. "To suggest that remembering the Holocaust and acknowledging all of the people, Jewish, gypsies, priests, disabled, gays and lesbians".

"Hicks pointed those who inquired to an article which bemoaned the fact that, too often the "other" victims of the Holocaust were forgotten". As Elie Wiesel said, 'Not all victims were Jews, but all Jews were victims'.
Similarly, Rabbi Marvin Hier of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, who gave a prayer at the Trump inauguration, called the statement a "mistake". "It was not planned against any group other than Jews", he said, noting the decisions reached by the Nazi to deliberately kill the Jews at the Wannsee Conference in 1942.
The Jew-less statement feeds into the Holocaust revisionism which denies the uniqueness of the Holocaust and the Jews being singled out for extermination.
Squadron (D-Brooklyn Heights-DUMBO-Downtown Brooklyn) said the White House simply can not ignore the fact that the Holocaust was aimed primarily at the Jewish people. Underlying this claim is the contention that the Jews are "stealing" the Holocaust for themselves. "Softcore denial also makes all sorts of false comparisons to the Holocaust".
Trump's Chief of Staff Reince Priebus defended the president's statement on Sunday, saying he does not "regret the words" used in the statement and that the administration wasn't "whitewashing anything". We must take every opportunity to remind ourselves of the universal lessons of the Holocaust and to foster a shared culture of respect and remembrance.
