Mexico Warns Citizens in USA to 'Take Precautions' After High-Profile Deportation

Rayos's daughter Jaqueline, 14, says she wants to know why Trump would take her mother from her.

He added saying, "Getting back to the US, legally, there's really no route for her".

In a statement explaining why Garcia had been detained Wednesday, ICE noted that "Ms. Garcia De Rayos has a prior felony conviction dating from March 2009 for criminal impersonation".

Seven people were arrested Wednesday night during demonstrations outside the ICE offices in Phoenix.

Trump's executive order last month on border security expanded enforcement priorities to include undocumented immigrants who have committed "any criminal offense" or were subject to a "final order of removal".

Under a new executive order that President Trump signed on 25 January, Garcia de Rayos had become a priority for deportation.

"ICE has done what President Trump wanted to do, which is deport and separate our families", said Marisa Franco, director of the Phoenix-based advocacy group Mijente.

The sudden deportation Thursday of an Arizona woman who had regularly checked in with us immigration authorities for years has prompted a stark warning from Mexico's government.

Trump, Trudeau set to meet Monday in Washington
Congress has tried a number of times to make reforms over the years and under different administrations. The leader of Canada is typically among the first foreign leaders to meet with new USA presidents.

Protesters took to Immigration and Customs Enforcement headquarters Wednesday to block the deportation of a Mesa mom who was ordered deported during an immigration check-in earlier in the day. That means ICE could have made a decision to ignore the priorities and deport her before anyway.

Rights organizations have pointed to language within Trump's executive order called "Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States", as having led to Garcia's deportation and other like her.

ICE officials said Rayos' removal under a voluntary deportation order was finalized by the Department of Justice in May 2013.

Garcia de Rayos, flanked by her children, spoke to reporters in Nogales late Thursday. Karen Tumlin of the National Immigration Law Center said Friday that law enforcement officials have already carried out raids on homes, communities and workplaces in Los Angeles and Georgia. She will be temporarily housed at a local shelter and the consulate will help her to return to her family in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato within the next few days, he said.

Garcia de Rayos' teenage children spoke at an emotional news conference Thursday in Phoenix, the Arizona Republic reported.

"We need my mother back with us and we're going to keep on fighting", her 16-year-old son Angel Rayos Garcia chanted.

She was deported to Mexico yesterday, arrested after reporting for a routine check to immigration and customs officials despite knowing she risked being detained. It lost the case on appeal, but Arpaio disbanded the task force that conducted the raids. The NYT notes that it isn't clear if the van meant to take Lupita - and the other undocumented immigrants in the van - to detention or back to Mexico. The former president had prioritized the deportation of people who were convicted of crimes such as aggravated felonies, terrorism or activity in a criminal street gang.
