Russian runner banned, loses Olympic gold for doping

Mariya Savinova

"As a outcome, a four-year period of ineligibility, beginning on 24 August 2015, has been imposed and all results achieved between 26 July 2010 and 19 August 2013, are disqualified and any prizes, medals, prize and appearance money forfeited".

Savinova-Farnosova was one of five athletes who WADA recommended lifetime bans for back in November 2015.

In a press release, CAS said there was "clear evidence" Savinova had been doping from July 2010, just before the European Championships, to the 2013 World Championships in August.

She also said her husband, Russian 1,500m runner Aleksey Farsonov, had "very good contacts to the doping control laboratory" in Moscow.

Savinova-Farnosova was also stripped of her 2011 World Championship gold‚ another race where Semenya ended second. "If CAS decided (to ban Savinova) nothing can be done", he told Russia's Tass news agency.

American flight diverted to St. Louis checked for bombs
The plane finally lifted off from Lambert about 2:50 p.m., nearly six hours after it was scheduled to land in Phoenix. Aerial video then showed crews unloading all luggage from the plane and placing the items on the tarmac.

Both athletes could now have their medals upgraded.

Another Russian finalist from the 2012 final, Yelena Arzhakova, has already been banned and Ekaterina Poistogova, who took the bronze medal, is under investigation for doping.

"The CAS acted as first instance decision-making authority for this matter, substituting for (the Russian Athletic Federation) which was suspended at the time the matter was ready to be adjudicated (and which remains suspended)", the statement continued. Russian Federation has denied any official involvement in the scandal.

The country's athletes missed last year's Rio Olympics and will be absent at August's World Championships in London after the IAAF voted to extend Russia's suspension.
