Harrison Ford "near miss" plane incident to be investigated

Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford attends the 12th Annual "Living Legends of Aviation" in Beverly Hills, California, January 16, 2015.

FAA officials said that while Ford repeated the landing instructions back to them correctly, he aimed at the taxiway instead.

Air traffic controllers Monday afternoon allegedly cleared the pilot of an Aviat Husky, later identified as Ford, to land on Runway 20L at the airport, the Orange County Register reported.

This is not the first time Ford, who is an experienced pilot and noted vintage plane enthusiast, has been involved in an aircraft-related incident.

He was promptly alerted to the fact he had landed on the wrong path - a violation of the Federal Aviation Administration's safety rules, which has sparked an investigation by organisation bosses.

ICE Says Arrests in Surge Actions Not Linked to Trump Order
While Trump has vowed to sharpen the federal focus on immigration, his predecessor quietly increased the number of deportations. Notably, experts have challenged Trump's estimates of the number of undocumented immigrants who have been convicted of crimes.

A spokesperson for Mr Ford declined to comment to reporters.

According to the Independent, Ford was confused and had then asked air traffic control, "Was that airliner meant to be underneath me?".

Fortunately, at least for the cast and crew of Star Wars, Ford's character Han Solo died in the last film, Episode VII, so he can't delay production with this latest incident.

A list of Harrison's injuries included a large head laceration, as well as a broken pelvis and ankle. The 737 was actually waiting for Ford's plane to land at the time; Ford was supposed to land on the runway in front of the 737, ABC 7 reports. He was praised for avoiding densely populated areas nearby. The plane was slightly damaged but Ford and his passengers were unhurt. In 1999, the "Star Wars" actor crash-landed his helicopter - he and the instructor escaped unhurt - during a training flight in Los Angeles. A year later, his scraped the runway in an emergency landing. Witnesses said Ford "saved lives" by diverting the falling aircraft towards the empty golf course and away from the surrounding houses.
