Hugh Jackman's final outing as Wolverine reinvents the superhero genre

Australian actor Hugh Jackman attends a press conference for the film “Logan” in competition at the 67th Berlinale film festival in Berlin

The most important factor of Logan's setting being a dozen years in the future, though, is that it does not have to abide by the often-confusing timelines put in place by the previous X-Men films. "Logan unveils another, surprise bad guy about halfway through, but even this twist underwhelms, leaving our faltering hero without a worthy enemy for this climatic cinematic showdown". There isn't a lot of hope in the movie.

Logan is in many ways an emotional, heavy picture, but it's also an uplifting one that reminds us that it's okay to fight for something more, something better. Since Laura's mutant physical gifts are so identical to Logan's, there's a melancholy to their relationship. The loner has to learn to put someone else first. Somber, mature, reflective and destructive, Logan arguably could be called the best X-Men movie, period.

Entertainment Weekly's Chris Nashawaty shares that you might find yourself tearing up in some parts.

Forbes' Scott Mendelson questions if Logan would be as well-reguarded if it were not for the lowered expectations viewers have for superhero movies, writing: "I would be willing to bet that the same film delivered sans known characters and specifically sans four-color source material would be accepted as a rock-solid genre piece as opposed to the pinnacle of its respective genre". Why muck that up with a wholly unnecessary teaser for another X-Men movie? "The end of Logan is genuinely touching, as Jackman lets you feel the character's strength and pain, and - finally - his release".

"Logan is a violent, emotional masterpiece and the flawless ending to Hugh Jackman's run as the Wolverine". The X-Men series has always been about pushing forward the message that it's okay to be different, and to embrace the very things that make you stand apart.

Study says IN has 13th most 'structurally deficient' bridges IN the country
Meanwhile, the District of Columbia had the least with 9 comprised bridges, followed by Nevada with 31 and DE with 43. New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Rhode Island all saw increases in their preponderance of problem bridges.

"Logan's momentum definitely flags towards the end, but there are some nice touches in the finale as well (including a final shot that is absolutely perfect)".

Hugh Jackman as an aged Wolverine in 2017's Logan.

Logan is unlike any comic book movie before it thanks to Jackman and Stewart's chemistry, Mangold's willingness to take risks, and 20th Century Fox allowing all of this to happen under an R-rating. If you have any connection to the X-Men franchise in any capacity, Logan is an experience you'll want to have in theaters. It could really only be done with Jackman signing off and with Mangold being given the authority to really cut loose and present a clear, uncompromised vision.

Logan - or Wolverine - and Professor X are living in hiding when Lisa surfaces, having escaped her creator-captors with the help of a nurse from the clinic. "Perhaps it's just the novelty, but that explicit violence and salty language (Professor X turns out to be quite the potty-mouth as well) adds a bit of much-needed fizz to the Wolverine sub-franchise".

"With its blood-freezing brutality, shockingly effective humor, and tear-inducing tenderness, Logan joins The Dark Knight and Unbreakable in the pantheon of great superhero movies that don't need to be graded on a superheroic curve", he writes.
