Dana White says Georges St-Pierre could make UFC return at lightweight

Dana White says Georges St-Pierre could make UFC return at lightweight

"Georges has also talked about fighting at 155 pounds".

Earlier in the week, MMAFighting journalist Ariel Helwani reported that former long-reigning UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre had agreed on the terms of a new deal with the world's premier MMA promotion.

No official date of St-Pierre's return nor his opponent has been announced but White indicated the victor of the UFC 209 welterweight title rematch between champion Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson as a possible foe.

"He's back. I'm excited", White told the Times' Lance Pugmire.

Other than a stunning upset loss to Matt Serra that he avenged, St-Pierre was on an 11-bout title-fight winning streak - with victories over the likes of Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, BJ Penn and Hughes again - when he walked away following the Hendricks' triumph.

It was believed that the UFC's deal with manufacturer Reebok meant the 35-year-old's third party endorsements could not be honoured, severely impacting his earning potential.

This, of course, means that we can expect to see St-Pierre back in the cage sometime in the next few months.

Ben Affleck Is Not Leaving The DC Cinematic Universe
"I have been told that Affleck is talking with Warner Bros in an attempt to get out of being Batman", the podcast host alleged. When Warner Bros' set up its interconnected DCEU, they copied Marvel's Cinematic Universe.

St-Pierre (25-2) has not competed since defending his welterweight title against Johnny Hendricks at UFC 167 in November 2013.

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley wasn't the only one confused at the end of his first title defense past year, most of the MMA world was too.

"Bisping has said that he will fight Yoel Romero if that's what they want him to do but nothing is signed yet and I know that he is looking for the money fight".

St-Pierre's return could not come at a better time for the UFC, who received more positive news this week when Cris "Cyborg" Justino was cleared of a doping infraction.

However, those issues have now been worked out and St-Pierre will immediately be thrust into the title pictures at three different weights, according to White. UFC, in a statement, insisted St-Pierre remains under contract.

No matter who St-Pierre fights against, his return is a welcome sight for the UFC as it is in dire need of stars with Conor McGregor chasing Floyd Mayweather, Ronda Rousey's possible retirement and the current suspension of Jon Jones.
