Earnhardt Jr. would consider walking away as a champion

Keselowski Co Favored to Win 2017 Daytona 500 Along With Earnhardt Jr

Dale Earnhardt Jr. sat on stage for his Daytona 500 Media Day interview session Wednesday morning and at the end of his 20-plus minutes taking questions, he conceded that if he were to win the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series title, he would at least consider stepping away from full-time competition after this season.

Preparing for this Sunday's season-opening Daytona 500, Earnhardt spoke to the media and broached the topic of retirement. He has won the Daytona 500 twice (2004 and 2014) and has finished in the top-five in the standings multiple times, with the last one being a fifth place finish in 2013. "I've always wanted to win a championship so badly, and coming back from this injury, we worked so hard, so to come back this year and win a championship, it would be hard not to hang it up".

TSN and RDS's live coverage of the 2017 MONSTER ENERGY NASCAR CUP SERIES kicks off Sunday, Feb. 26 with the 59th running of the Great American Race, the DAYTONA 500, live from Daytona International Speedway.

More Rain In Store After 2 Killed In California Storms
But California's Department of Water Resource (DWR) said the flow of water has since slowed and that the situation has stabilized. But residents have since returned home, and officials are feeling comfortable about the situation despite the forecast rain.

Earnhardt, 42, is making a heralded comeback to NASCAR Nation after missing 18 races last season with concussion-related symptoms. "When we first started in NASCAR with Robby Gordon in 2009, our models today were conservatively dressed compared to what they had on back then". Earnhardt is now in the final year of his contract with Hendrick Motorsports.

"Now, I don't think anyone else has as much luxury sponsorship-wise as Dale Jr. probably does to be able to just get out of the vehicle like that, but it also is coming from a big-name driver that is setting the standard for well-being and it's admirable", Patrick said. He said Wednesday that it's actually a serious thought. "I would be out because I love what I do, but I love lots of other things and I also love life and I'm too young to have it be over, so it's a good lesson for a lot of people and a good education".

"There's a few races I'd like to win".
