Lakers Trade Lou Williams To Rockets For Corey Brewer, First-Round Pick

Lakers logo

It's essentially a yearly tradition at this point.

While this move benefits Los Angeles in the long-run, Houston appears all in on this season, and with Williams on the bench, the Rockets have to be thinking about their ability to match the number of shooters the Golden State Warriors have. The Rockets will be sending a 2017 first-round pick and Corey Brewer in exchange for Williams.

Several reports have linked the Wiz to Lou Williams, and Washington has indeed explored trading a protected first-round pick for the king of the 2-for-1.

Lastly, Houston actually saved a little bit of money this year and next with this trade. If Los Angeles' pick ends up out of the top three, Philadelphia will receive it AND Orlando will receive the Lakers 2019 selection.

Williams also brings with him a manageable contract, and he'll have one more year left on his deal at the conclusion of this season.

A key element in the trade is the draft pick the Lakers received.

Jay Z: From Marcy to VC
His slow crawl into the VC world can be traced back in 2011, when Roc Nation invested in Stance , a "premium sock company". He's also invested in JetSmarter and Uber, according to Crunchbase , which collects VC investment data.

It will certainly be interesting to see what the Lakers do with Brewer.

Should the Los Angeles Lakers of made a better trade? He'll provide instant offense for the Rockets.

Williams is at the peak of his career with a point average of 18.6 per game and 3-point field goal percentage of.385. Even after going 0-for-8 from three in his last four games, Muhammad holds a 48.6 three-point percentage going back to December 21. Chandler would give a defensive boost, while Gallinari is a better all-around offensive option than Lou Williams.

However, Williams certainly comes with defensive limitations.

The additions of the veterans Gordon, Ryan Anderson and Nene have been flawless fits the MVP race leader Harden. When Harden sits, the offensive rating for the Rockets drops to 105, which may be a good mark for some teams but a paltry sum for Houston.

Another important aspect of this trade is that it actually saves the Rockets money in the future. He's under contract for $7 million next season. But the Lakers gained an additional draft pick to complement a young roster that includes D'Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, Brandon Ingram, Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr. and Ivica Zubac. That could mean that Charlotte gets him on the cheap, possibly without giving up a first.
