Le Pen aide charged in European Parliament jobs probe

Le Pen meets Lebanese PM Hariri

It drew the focus to her strong support for secularism and a proposal in her presidential platform that promotes banishing headscarves and other obvious religious symbols in all public spaces.

"I have explained to president Aoun the true meaning of my political struggle", she said. "I will not put on the veil".

The far-right leader told reporters: "You can pass on my respects to the Grand Mufti, but I will not cover myself up".

French legislation bans headscarves in classrooms. While the 2004 law covers all religions, it is aimed at Muslims.

If she were to win the election, she said she would propose a "Frexit" to quit the European bloc and restore internal borders and local currency.

Le Pen was due to meet with Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, who is the top cleric for Sunni Muslims in the country.

When Le Pen arrived for the meeting, she was surprised when an aide to the grand mufti attempted to hand her a white headscarf. She has refused to pay it back, saying the jobs weren't fictitious, and has appealed the decision.

Christian right-wing leader Samir Geagea said after meeting with Le Pen on Tuesday that "terrorism has no religion". Instead, she said, "They tried to impose it upon me".

Calling his offer a "political sacrifice" in remarks to journalists after his address, he described it as the only viable choice given Le Pen's popularity.

Trump's Travel Ban 2.0
The Ninth Circuit's order has no impact on any of those other cases, though most other courts will likely follow suit. It also blocks entry to the USA for 90 days to all citizens of Iran , Iraq , Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen .

"That's why I draw this conclusion today that I want to take part in the renewal of politics that Emmanuel Macron has launched".

"It looks on the face of it like a media operation whose goal is to disturb the course of the presidential campaign", said a statement from the party.

"The mufti's office regrets this inappropriate behaviour in such meetings".

There are thousands of French citizens residing in Lebanon.

While Macron was is London, Le Pen was in Lebanon for a two-day visit, also in an operation to demonstrate her worldwide clout.

Le Pen also said that during the meeting, the Syrian refugees issue had been discussed which was a hard burden for Lebanon. Her two main rivals, Emmanuel Macron and François Fillon, have 20 percent and 17 percent of the popular vote, respectively. Her stance represents a major divergence from official French policy and that of Hariri, who is opposed to dictator.

She was also holding meetings with Foreign Minister Gibran Bassil and Christian Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rai and Christian Lebanese politician Samir Geagea.

Both Le Pen and Fillon are embroiled in financial scandals.
