Bihar: BSSC Chairman arrested in connection with exam racket

BSSC chairman Sudhir Kumar

Meanwhile, the IAS Officer's Association called Kumar's arrest a witch-hunt and demanded his immediate release and all charges dropped.

The special investigation team (SIT) probing the Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) question paper leak scam will quiz the static magistrate, who was deployed at the AVN School centre for the second phase of examination on February 5, said SIT chief and SSP (Patna) Manu Maharaaj on Saturday. The IAS Officers' Association expressed their anger and anguish through a press release which said, "Deeply angered & anguished by the manner in which SIT arrested BSSC chairman and senior IAS officer Sudhir Kumar".

Kumar has been arrested from Jharkhands Hazaribagh district, a senior police source said, adding of the four others arrested along with Kumar, two are his nephews.

Friday's arrest came after Mr Kumar's relatives allegedly told the police that the 1987 batch IAS officer used to get them advance copies of the question paper. The state government cancelled the five-phase examination conducted for appointment of Intermediate-level clerical staff. "Though the question papers and OMR sheets are published at different places, we have proof of conversations between those printing the question papers and those printing the OMR sheets". "We know Mr. Kumar is a man of unimpeachable character and we will take all necessary actions to ensure his is declared not guilty and is freed immediately from the jail", the Secretary of the Bihar chapter of the IAS Officers' Association Vivek Singh said.

So far more than 20 people have been arrested in connection with the case.
