BlackBerry KEYone launches in April for $549

The MWC 2017 was in a way a swan song for BlackBerry, which launched the BlackBerry KEYone - the "last phone designed and engineered in-house by BlackBerry".

We surely haven't got our hands on the device yet, but here are the interesting and best features of the Blackberry KEYone smartphone based on what the company has showcased.

Both devices come with QWERTY keyboards - the KEYone comes with a keyboard placed under the display, and the Priv comes with a slide-out keyboard that can be slid back under the display for full touch-screen usage.

The smartphone has a 12-megapixel rear camera with a Sony IMX378 sensor - reportedly the same one present on the Google Pixel. The smartphone runs Android 7.1 and is powered by Qualcomm's 2.5GHz Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor with Adreno 560 and 650MHz GPU along with 3GB of RAM. Additionally, the device offers 32GB of inbuilt storage that is expandable via microSD card (up to 2TB).

As has been the case with previous devices, the KEYone runs a relatively untouched version of Android Nougat 7.1, complimented by BlackBerry's security and productivity software, like the BlackBerry Hub and DTEK. The design itself is indeed, impressive featuring an aluminum unibody, and a soft textured back that should help while banging on those physical keys. Users can also assign a shortcut to keys for use with a long press.

Unlike the models of the past, BlackBerry KEYone has been developed and manufactured by partner TCL. It also includes a scratch resistant 4.5 inch screen display covered in Gorilla Glass. The software is also able to alert users when someone is using their device without their knowledge.

The newly introduced smartphone is also very secure with a fingerprint sensor integrated into the keyboard spacebar. The front-facing camera is an 8MP resolution unit with 1.12 micron sized pixels and support for 1080p video capture.

TCL Communication is now taking pre-orders for the device, which will become available from April 2017. The charging port is a USB C type port. The phone is priced at 599 Euro, 499 Pounds and 549 Dollars (roughly Rs 37,000) in worldwide markets.
