Russian Federation denies reports on airstrikes on areas mentioned by USA military

The Russian government denied the bombing, saying that neither Russian nor Syrian aircraft were involved.

Islamic State is on the back foot in Syria after losing territory in the north to an alliance of US -backed, Kurdish-led militias, and to Turkey-backed Syrian rebel groups.

March 2 (ANI): Russia has denied allegations by the US-led coalition that former's jets had carried out airstrikes in Syria against the US-controlled armed groups. This was likely a bad mistake, but one that's bound to keep happening.

"To avoid any incidents, the USA representative has provided exact coordinates of the US-backed opposition forces in the region to a Russian officer", the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday, adding that the information was "taken into account" by the Russian military.

American military advisors tasked with training and advising the Syrian Democratic Forces were less than three miles away from the location where the joint Russian and Syrian attack occurred Tuesday, said Townsend, who heads USA forces in the fight against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.

Townsend said the United States is "still in decision-making stages" as to whether or not join the SDF assault on Raqqa "and what equipment they might need".

Pentagon Officials: No Actionable Intelligence From Yemen Raid
They said US airstrikes targeted al-Qaeda artillery and other sites, and that no US Navy ships participated in the mission. If he's willing to tell the president that, knowing it'll be relayed to America, why not say so himself?

"It became apparent that the strikes were falling on some of the Syrian Arab Coalition positions and some quick calls were made to our deconfliction channels and the Russians acknowledged and stopped - stopped bombing there". The liberation of Bab also means Turkey now has secured its border from ISIS, the general noted.

"Not a single air strike on the regions specified by the USA side was conducted by Russian or Syrian air forces", the statement added. He declined to say how numerous US -backed Syrian fighters were killed or wounded.

Russian Federation denied responsibility, saying in a written statement that it had adhered to USA guidance on avoiding friendly forces in that area. "The coalition is committed to the security of Turkey and will continue to work in close coordination with partner forces and allies to deliver a lasting defeat to ISIS, which remains the greatest terrorist threat to the region and the world", he added.

The bombing reveals just how complicated it is for multiple countries to operate in very tight spaces, be they on the ground or above it. Nearly a year later, the Syrian army managed to liberate the city, however, in December 2016, the jihadists regained control over the city for the second time and destroyed part of its cultural property. Last month, they mistakenly bombed Turkish soldiers near the city, killing three.

Russian Federation is using air power to prop up the regime of President Bashar al-Assad but also sometimes strikes IS. Russian Federation is a staunch support of the Assad regime.
