Hyundai recalls almost a million cars

Hyundai recalling nearly 1 million Sonata cars in U.S. regulator

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the seatbelts in those vehicles might detach during collisions.

Hyundai is recalling almost 978,000 cars in the USA because of a seatbelt malfunction.

Hyundai said in government documents that a fastener for a seat belt anchor may not have been fully latched during assembly.

If the seat belt linkage detaches from the anchor pretensioner in a collision, the risk of injury to the occupant is increased.

One minor injury was reported because of the problem. Hyundai's number for the recall is 160.

Somali pirates release ship and hostages with no ransom
At the height of the crisis in 2011, there were 237 attacks and the annual cost of piracy was estimated to be up to $8bn (£7bn). The ship had been carrying fuel from Djibouti to Somalia's capital, Mogadishu , when it was approached by men in two skiffs.

Hyundai issued a recall for 977,778 examples of its Sonata sedan.

If you own one of these vehicles and have further questions, you're encouraged to call Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 and ask about recall #160. Since then, Hyundai and the pretensioner supplier, ZF-TRW, have been attempting to determine the cause.

While the recall is hefty at almost 1 million vehicles, the risk that these vehicles contain the defect is small.

Owners will be notified starting April 7.

Dealers will inspect the belts and make repairs if necessary.
