Mount Etna caused reporter to be pelted by debris

Tourists and BBC TV crew injured with lava and rocks in huge Mount Etna eruption

At least 10 people are believed to have been injured from the volcanic rocks and steam.

A BBC film crew documenting the active Mount Etna in Sicily weren't afforded that luxury, and together with tourists they witnessed first-hand just how temperamental Mother Nature can be. For this most recent one, several tourists and a crew of BBC journalists were present, with the journalists catching footage from much too close.

Standing at 11,000 feet, Etna is Europe's largest volcano and erupts frequently and with little warning through any of its many vents.

Umberto Marino, President of the local Alpine Club, was traveling up Mount Etna towards the active lava flow in a snowcat to check out the activity when the crowd began running towards him.

"Running down a mountain pelted by rocks, dodging burning boulders and boiling steam - not an experience I ever ever want to repeat", Morelle said on Twitter after the group got off the mountain.

World's Heaviest Woman Receives Bariatric Surgery In India
The Daily Mail reported Abd El Aty lost 66 pounds in five days with a strict 1,200 calorie diet in preparation for the surgery. Eman, 37, was airlifted from Alexandria in Egypt and brought to Mumbai on February 11, when she weighed around 500 kg.

Morelle said the explosion was "a reminder of how unsafe [and] unpredictable volcanoes can be".

Undoubtedly a terrifying experience for all involved and from the safety of our homes the pictures of lava emerging from the snow-covered volcano look like something out of a sci-fi movie.

As a result of Thursday's eruption, officials said flights arriving at Catania airport would be halved to five an hour because of ash clouds, but departures would continue uninterrupted.

Authorities said the four of those hurt had to be hospitalized, mostly for head injuries, but all were expected to recover.
