Theresa May: SNP's call for independence vote is 'muddle on muddle'

Theresa May: 'One United Kingdom' required to get best out of Brexit

Since Ms Sturgeon announced her intention to hold a new independence referendum on Monday, the SNP has raised nearly £350,000 to help to fund its latest push for Scotland to leave the UK. Britain is due to begin the two-year exit process from the 28-nation European Union by the end of this month.

"What we need now is to unite, to come together as a country and to ensure that we can get the best deal for the whole of the United Kingdom".

While further comment must await developments in the intervening fortnight ~ till the end of March ~ the government can not but be unnerved by Ms Sturgeon flagging the demand for a second vote of Scottish independence. after voters in Scotland had opposed Brexit on June 23 past year.

Mr Robertson said: "If the Prime Minister refuses to engage on the terms of a referendum before Brexit takes place then she is effectively trying to block the people of Scotland having a choice over their future". The last time the Scots voted on whether to remain as part of the United Kingdom, the majority, 55 percent, opted to within the union.

Speaking to the BBC's Today programme, he said the Scottish Parliament would discuss the request to hold another Scottish independence referendum next week and he was confident a vote to ask for one would be passed.

Addressing her Conservative party's spring forum in Cardiff on Friday, Ms May accused Ms Sturgeon of "muddle on muddle" in her approach to Scotland's relationship with the EU.

"Whatever our different opinions on independence, we can all unite around this simple principle: Scotland's future must be Scotland's choice", Sturgeon will tell delegates, according to extracts of her speech released by her office.

A spokesman said May hoped the Scottish parliament would back away from staging a vote.

Boaty McBoatface set for first scientific mission
The NERC, however, said it would have the final say, and that the most popular name would not necessarily be the one chosen. Boaty McBoatface can navigate waters for multiple months and its first mission will last through April.

Still, Sturgeon's Scottish National Party does not hold an outright majority in the Scottish legislature.

Ms Dugdale said: "Gordon and I have been working closely together as Labour puts forward an alternative to the constitutional extremes offered by the SNP and the Tories".

"And at the same time, we will pursue the ambitious economic and social reforms we need to make Britain work for working people".

The bill was passed Monday by Parliament but needed royal assent to become a law. As I say, we've been joined together for over 300 years.

May is now free to invoke Article 50 of the EU's key treaty, triggering two years of exit negotiations. The nationalists said that Ms Davidson's new campaign showed that the Conservatives had accepted that a new referendum was inevitable, despite claims to the contrary.

"We are now the party of the new centre-ground of British politics".

Asked again, he said: 'Theresa May has demonstrated big-style this week she is able to change her mind'. In the context of the peers agreeing to allow the passage of the bill unamended, Britain gets posited on what the Brexit secretary, David Davis, has called "the threshold of the most important negotiation for our country in a generation".
