Sen. Collins: Americans owed explanation on wiretap claim

David Sarasohn

"There's no evidence of collusion", he said.

"We need to know whether the circumstantial evidence of collusion and direct evidence of deception is indicative of more", said Schiff, of California.

A congressional panel so far has found no evidence that Trump's campaign colluded with Russian Federation, its chairman said Sunday.

"You're going to find some very interesting items coming to the forefront over the next two weeks", Trump said.

Comey and Admiral Mike Rogers, the head of the National Security Agency, have agreed to testify before the House committee on issues related to Russia's role in the election.

At least four or more House and Senate committees are investigating Mr. Trump's charges, along with revelations about previously undisclosed Russian contacts with some of the president's top advisers.

That's according to Rep. Mike Quigley, D-Ill., the only member from IL on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which is holding its first hearing about Russia's role in the 2016 contest. The British government strongly denied it.

Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., says he has a promise that Comey will appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee to answer two questions: did any US court issue an order allowing the Trump campaign to be bugged and is there an open criminal investigation into Trump or his associates?

"There was no FISA warrant that I'm aware of to tap Trump Tower", Nunes said on "Fox News Sunday" of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

The committee earlier held an open hearing in January on the Russian activities in the 2016 election.

"We have to understand everything about the ties between Russian Federation, the Trump campaign, the Trump transition, the Trump administration", said Kaine, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's running mate. "There's no little campfire".

The request stems from the charge, made March 4 by Trump on Twitter, that the Obama administration ordered surveillance of Trump's phones at his campaign headquarters during the campaign.

Global benchmark Brent added nearly 0.1 per cent to $51.77 a barrel, and was headed for a 0.8 per cent weekly gain. Prices on benchmark 10-year Treasuries fell 8/32 to yield 2.531 percent, up from 2.504 percent late on Wednesday.

Many lawmakers, including Nunes and House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., have expressed skepticism that such wiretaps existed.

Cotton, a critic of the House GOP health care bill embraced by the Trump administration, said the legislation is "fixable but it's going to take a lot of work", adding the current version "isn't going to work to bring down premiums".

He said that information the House Intelligence Committee received from the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Friday "continues to lead us in that direction". At the time, sources told CNN that the report would not back Trump's accusation.

"Was there a physical wiretap of Trump Tower? No".

The California Republican also said there was "no evidence of collusion" between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers on the House and Senate intelligence committees said this week they have not seen anything to support his allegations.

"We'll see what Director Comey testifies about", Cotton said.

Domestically, the controversy over the wiretapping claim has pulled attention away from Trump's effort to push through other key items on his agenda, including the planned repeal of Obama's healthcare law, tax reform and his controversial travel ban. "And he needs to put an end to this".

"It would be quite good for the administration to put forward what evidence there is", Cruz said.

On NBC, Schiff said that "at the outset of the investigation, there was circumstantial evidence of collusion", as well as "direct evidence, I think, of deception".

One of those joint requests, signed last week, effectively launched the exclusively Republican demand that the committee's investigation include leaks of sensitive information to the media - an obvious point of compromise on the part of Democrats.
