Oakland Raiders Relocation: Judgement Day

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

If you weren't a huge fan of the name "Las Vegas Raiders" now seems about the flawless time to hop on board with it.

Las Vegas will be home to an NFL franchise after the league's 32 owners approved the relocation of the Oakland Raiders. The Miami Dolphins were the lone holdouts, according to numerous reports.

But it wasn't much longer than a good Derek Carr heave ago that the NFL's deference to Stan Kroenke and the Rams and its mandate to not steamroll Dean Spanos and the Chargers left the Raiders stuck in no-man's land.

Barring an unforeseen obstacle, the AFC rival Oakland Raiders seem certain to get approval to relocate to Las Vegas.

What we do know is that Goodell's letter to the city of Oakland is yet another clear sign that Monday's vote will go in favor of the Raiders and their relocation efforts.

Ina statement, Raiders majority owner Mark Davis reacted to the vote.

The Raiders are scheduled to continue playing in Oakland this season and have a contract option to play there in 2018.

-There is a Redskins related note on this move, as Washington hosts the Raiders at FedExField during the 2017 season.

It's not a flawless deal: The Raiders would be moving into an untested market that would rank among the smallest in the league.

Syrian rebels launch second Damascus attack in three days
Almost half a million people have been killed and half of the country's pre-war population has been displaced. In December, the regime retook Aleppo, Syria's largest city before the war started in 2011.

In addition, the league's owners are expected to re-examine the circumstances of the Chargers' move to Los Angeles and whether the San Diego market can be salvaged.

While there was sadness in Oakland, there was joy in Las Vegas. They were originally founded in Oakland in 1960, then moved to Los Angeles from 1982-94 before returning to Oakland for the last 22 seasons.

"And the opportunity to develop a world-class stadium in the entertainment capital in the world is one opportunity that will give us the ability to achieve that".

Schaaf said the city has presented a $1.3 billion plan for a stadium at the Coliseum site that would be ready by 2021.

"It's different with the Raiders, because they were born here", said Bobbitt, a facility management consultant who grew up in East Oakland.

The Raiders are moving to Las Vegas, but they'll spend at least the next two seasons in Oakland while their new stadium is built. I love Oakland. I love the fans of Oakland. Chairman and CEO Sheldon Adelson unexpectedly withdrew his family's pledge of $650 million toward the construction of a $1.9 billion domed stadium in Southern Nevada.

The more you talk to National Football League people, the more sense you get the Raiders have given owners every reason to support their Las Vegas pursuit, and very little reason to oppose it.

A last-ditch effort by the City of Oakland to keep the Raiders proposed a new stadium be built neighboring the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum - which would serve as the continued home for the A's - and even that was an objectionable idea to the NFL. Specifically, Goodell wants to add a "play clock" after touchdowns and extra points to ensure games resume in a timely fashion.
