Amazon launches store-pick grocery service in Seattle

AMAZON-STORE

The store is now only open to Amazon employees; Amazon has said it would open to the public in "early 2017".

The two sites are in the north Seattle neighborhood of Ballard and south of downtown in an area called SoDo, for south of the domed sports stadium that once stood there.

Amazon already has five physical bookstores open in the United States, with an additional five coming soon.

Amazon Go, for the unfamiliar, is a futuristic grocery store devoid of human cashiers. Amazon, which is typically secretive about its plans, said those reports were "not even close".

Amazon's latest foray into bridging the divide between e-commerce and physical commerce is AmazonFresh Pickup, a service that offers drive-in pickup of grocery orders placed online.

Russian Federation bans money transfers to Ukraine via U.S. cash transfer systems
Police said an unidentified man gunned down Denis Voronenkov outside the entrance of an upscale hotel in the country's capital. While in Kiev, Voronenkov was openly critical of President Vladimir Putin and other pro-Russian leaders.

Some retail experts have also questioned why Amazon would want to build up in physical retail at the same time many stores are shuttering and mall traffic is shrinking. Once the beta program is over, Prime customers will be able to use AmazonFresh Pickup for free and as many times as they'd like.

The company says it's built two physical grocery locations in Seattle, and its employees are now testing the service. For those who are torn about wanting to love the new Amazon books store while still supporting brick-and-mortar independent sellers, Amazon says they believe there's room for both. Our Just Walk Out Technology automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart.

The report states that the system only works as intended if there are only a few people in the shop, moving slowly.

Amazon Go is a single storefront amid the online retail giant's vast effort to reshape the grocery business and compete with the likes of Walmart. The easier and more convenient it is for every person in the world to purchase goods from Amazon, the bigger Amazon gets.
