Spain's Gerard Deulofeu celebrates after scoring his side's 2nd goal during the worldwide friendly soccer match between France and Spain at the Stade de France in Paris, France, Tuesday, March 28, 2017.

The duo made the difference following their introduction from the bench after Antoine Griezmann had seen a goal correctly ruled out for offside by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), which was deployed in successful fashion in Saint-Denis.

The flag went up from the assistant referee for offside, but after a delay while replays were checked, the goal stood and Spain could celebrate.

Spain thought they had taken the lead in the 23rd minute when Pique knocked the ball in from a corner, but the referee ruled there had been a foul by Sergio Ramos on France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Deulofeu's goal - from a Jordi Alba cross - was awarded after a conversation between the referee and the assistant that lasted about a minute.

The linesman ruled that Deulofeu had scored from an offside position, but the VAR once more ensured the correct call was made, as the video showed the winger had just managed to remain level before converting from eight yards out.

Among other European friendlies on Tuesday, Hoerdur Magnusson scored from a free kick midway through the first half to help Iceland to a 1-0 win away to Republic of Ireland.

France was on the wrong end of the video-assisted decisions at the Stade de France, and was defeated for the first time since its 1-0 loss to Portugal in the same venue in the European Championship final a year ago.

The Real Madrid star gave Portugal the lead from close range after 18 minutes, before Sweden captain Andreas Granqvist put the ball into his own net 16 minutes later.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring but could not prevent Portugal losing 3-2 in his home town of Funchal in Madeira following a late own-goal from Joao Cancelo.

The match at the Stade de France was part of a replay trial that was approved prior to the encounter by the French and Spanish associations, as well as by Fifa president Gianni Infantino.

Russian Federation took an early lead after just three minutes through Viktor Vasin before Everton midfielder Kevin Mirallas equalised from the penalty spot in the 17th minute.
