A Saturday night shooting that sent a University of South Florida football player to the hospital remains under investigation by the Tampa Police Department.

Hassan Childs has been kicked off the South Florida football team, coach Charlie Strong confirmed Tuesday.

"I had a chance to speak with him", Strong told The Tampa Bay Times.

Tulsa police release video of Madison Dickson confrontation
The officers directly involved in the incident are on routine leave with pay while the investigation is completed. While running, she turns her torso toward the approaching police cruiser and points the gun toward the vehicle.

"Childs pulled to the driver's side of Jimenez's vehicle and pointed a silver handgun toward Jovanni Jimenez", the Tampa police said in a statement. Childs and another man confronted each other and both pulled guns on each other, with the other man firing and hitting Childs three times in the torso and arm. Mr. Jimenez, who has a valid concealed weapons permit, removed his gun from his waistband and placed it on the seat next to his leg.

Childs was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition. Childs is a senior safety on the USF Bulls football team. Jimenez was driving home, eastbound on Skipper Road near the USF campus, when a Chevy Malibu began to tailgate and attempted to pass him, according to police. Childs doesn't have a criminal record. There is an ongoing investigation of the incident and we are in the process of gathering further information. The Hillsborough State Attorney's Office is determining whether charges will be brought against the shooter, 26-year-old Jovanni Jimenez. He pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of obstructing or opposing an officer without violence in March 2012.
