Facebook wants to be the new Snapchat

An example Instagram Business Profile shown on a smartphone

Previously, Facebook has added a Stories feature to WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger - now it's in the main Facebook app.

Facebook has also introduced a new feature called "Direct" which is basically a brand new format of the inbox that will let users indulge in some direct messaging action with each other. It will have dozens of effects like selfie masks, photo frames, and other interactive filters that users can apply to photos and videos. Facebook has teamed up with Hollywood for this feature, so instead of Snapchat's licking dog or voice-changing raccoon, there will be masks and filters based on "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" and "Despicable Me 3". With Direct, you can send individual photos and videos to friends that disappear once they've been viewed. To access the new feature, tap on the "Your Story" icon in Stories bar located at the top of News Feed. From this point, they can capture photos and videos, add effects and drawings and share their story with friends to provide them a glimpse of what they're up to. Either way, the update is rolling out to Android and iOS now so check it out if you still use the Facebook app.

In addition to sharing to your Story, you may want to share your photos and videos with specific friends.

Senate committee votes to appoint, not elect state's chief educator
Committee Democrats argued the amendment did not change the substance of the bill enough to allow a vote based on Senate rules. IN has moved one step closer to making the superintendent for public instruction an appointed rather than an elected position.

Facebook is introducing Direct as well, a new inbox for direct messages.

Stories are big in mobile apps right now, with Snapchat launching the feature some time ago to let its users share their days with their followers. It's been a gradual transition but the transformation of the Facebook Camera is nearly complete. The feature too is reminiscent of Snapchat's disappearing stories feature. While this gives Facebook users another cool feature to play around with, it also adds to the clutter and makes the app more resource intensive. Users can send a photo or a video to a friend who'll only be able to view it once and replay it or reply.
