Several lots of EpiPen, a leading emergency allergy treatment, are being recalled over a potential defect after two reports of the device failing to activate.

Mylan's original March 20 recall affected about 80,000 of the EpiPen devices shipped to locations outside the United States.

Mylan said it's extending the lots included in the recall as a precautionary measure.

The recall now covers 13 lots distributed from December 17, 2015 through July 1, 2016. EpiPens are used to counteract severe allergic reactions. Thankfully, the two people trying to use their EpiPens were able to seek medical attention promptly after their devices failed to work and survived.

The Mylan company has just issued another recall.

In response, Mylan started offering $300 savings cards for patients who have to pay full price and began developing its generic spinoff.
