Anti-allergy medicine EpiPen recall expands to US

EpiPen auto-injection epinephrine pens manufactured by Mylan NV pharmaceutical company for use by severe allergy sufferers are seen in Washi

Mylan is replacing any devices on the recall list for free.

(Scroll to see chart.) They are the only EpiPen lots impacted by the US recall. (0.15 mg) are sold as 2 Pak Auto-Injectors. Mylan's new generic EpiPen is not part of the voluntary recall and has been deemed a suitable replacement for the potentially defective product. Mylan brands adult versions with a yellow label and junior devices with a green label.

The defect makes it hard for the EpiPen to work during an emergency and could have significant health consequences for someone who is experiencing an allergic reaction.

Mylan NV identified 13 lots of its EpiPen (0.3 mg) and EpiPen Jr.

Subject to recall because of possible defective part
Mylan's original March 20 recall affected about 80,000 of the EpiPen devices shipped to locations outside the United States. The recall now covers 13 lots distributed from December 17, 2015 through July 1, 2016.

The lots of EpiPen and EpiPen Jr. that are affected were distributed between December 17, 2015, and July 1, 2016.

The EpiPen intervention product administers doses of epinephrine to patients suffering from anaphylaxis resulting from extreme allergic reactions.

"The expanded voluntary recall is being initiated in the USA and also will extend to additional markets in Europe, Asia, North and South America", Mylan said. The device is a literal lifesaver for people who experience severe allergic reactions, and that's exactly why the company is being pro-active about the issue.

Mylan has already issued a recall on several lots previous to Friday's announcement, but said they expanded it out of an abundance of caution. Food and Drug Administration.
