SNL destroys Pepsi, Kendall Jenner for that stupid commercial

Saturday Night Live NBC

Pepsi pulled the ad after significant backlash from people who said it was insensitive and appropriated the Black Lives Matter movement.

When Kendall Jenner's Pepsi commercial debuted earlier this week, it's fair to say that it didn't get the reaction that the drinks giant was probably expecting.

In the most obvious skit of the night, the director of the commercial is seen minutes before the "tone-deaf" ad was set to film, when he gets a call from his sister.

'It's an homage to the resistance, there's this huge protest, like Black Lives Matter, and everybody's marching, right?' he explains on the phone.

Apparently, the response to the Pepsi ad has been painful and embarrassing for Jenner, which it should be.

On the bright side, at such a stressful and divided time in the country, for a two-day interlude, Pepsi did manage to bring us together - black, white, old, young - in a united howl over the fantastic awfulness of one muddle-headed commercial.

Smith homer powers Orioles past Yankees
Drake, side-armer Darren O'Day, left-hander Donnie Hart, right-hander Brad Brach and Britton combined to allow just three hits. For the third straight game, the Orioles bullpen held the opposition scoreless, and gave the offense a chance to catch up.

The commercial has been accused of trivialising a serious issue by some of its online critics, but Pepsi has defended the advert, saying it carries an "important message".

The ad featured Jenner, a model, leaving a photography shoot, snatching off her blond wig, and joining a protest march.

Meanwhile, Pepsi released an official statement following their move to take down Kendall's ad on Wednesday, April 5.

You know how teachers in well-intentioned, but unavoidably cringey '90s movies starring some nice white lady tried to appeal to the youth by having her rap Shakespeare? "But you know, I don't think it's a big thing".

A production coordinator, who did not work on the Pepsi commercial, tells PEOPLE the decision to shoot overseas was likely "so that the extras would be cheap". But former police Chief Tony Ribera says he wasn't offended by the ad, "If I was a loyal Coke drinker, I might be mad that it was Pepsi. Clearly we missed the mark, and we apologize", a Pepsi spokesman said.
