Rocket fired at Israel amid warnings of attack on tourists in Sinai

The Taba border crossing between Israel and Egypt

On its official Twitter account, the terror group said "the fighters of the Islamic State have bombed a Jewish settlement in southern Palestine with a Grad rocket".

In a defiant speech, he warned the war against militants "will be long and painful" after he had ordered the army to protect "vital infrastructure" and increase security along Egypt's borders.

The IDF said security forces were sweeping the site of impact.

"Sunday's blasts represent one of the episodes of the conflict between terror groups and the Egyptian state and they are meant to largely pressure the Egyptian administration and weaken the country's national unity", Ghobashi told Xinhua. But he noted that Israelis would be allowed to return home.

A rocket fired from Egypt's Sinai crashed into Israel Monday, in an attack claimed by the Islamic State militant group, as authorities closed a border crossing over security threats, officials said.

The order recommends that all Israeli tourists in the popular Sinai tourist destination return home immediately.

Below-normal hurricane season expected this year
This eight-week period "is often the most active and risky time for tropical cyclone activity", NOAA explained on its website. In addition, this period is responsible for "a whopping 96 percent of the major (Category 3, 4 and 5) hurricane days".

Shortly after the announcement, Israel's military said that a rocket fired from Sinai exploded in southern Israel.

This was one of the few times the Taba Crossing was shut down since its opening in 1982, following the Israeli-Egyptian peace deal.

The Prime Minister's Office announced the move in a statement that cited "the intensifying activities" of Islamic State-affiliated terrorists in the Sinai region in recent months. Authorities added that there is increased "motivation to carry out terror attacks in different arenas at this time" due to ISIS's territorial losses in Iraq and Syria.

According to the IDF, the rocket was sacked from the Sinai Peninsula, presumably by the Islamic State terrorist group's affiliate there.

Israel offered condolences to the families of the victims of two bombing attacks on churches in Egypt and called for a worldwide fight against terrorism.

People gather outside the St. George's Church after a suicide bombing, in the Nile Delta town of Tanta, Egypt, Sunday, April 9, 2017.
