After discontinuing the NES, Nintendo is reportedly releasing a SNES Classic Edition

Nintendo Discontinues NES Classic Edition Globally [Update]

With the NES Classic launching last Christmas, it makes sense for Nintendo to follow up that success with another.

A Super Nintendo Mini is in the works. A source from Nintendo has informed Eurogamer that this Christmas, a mini version of Super Nintendo Entertainment System Classic, or SNES, will be launched to succeed the NES Mini. The site spoke with anonymous sources "close to the company" who said Nintendo is working on a miniature version of its beloved Super Nintendo Entertainment System to launch in time for the holidays. The NES Classic came with 30 games. We can only hope that Nintendo learns from its shortcomings with the the NES Classic and can meet the demands of its newest venture. Maybe next year we'll get an N64 Classic Edition with Goldeneye and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It's not clear if the mini SNES would come with an equal number of titles, or perhaps more.

Nintendo has declined to comment on the SNES Mini, stay tuned to Gameranx as we will bring you more news as it unfolds.

Hopefully, if Nintendo is planning to release an SNES Mini later this year, the company will produce more initial stock to meet the expected demand for it.

Captain Marvel Movie Gets Directors
The character - who gets her superpowers from a fusion of alien and human DNA - first appeared in comics in 1968. The resulting adjustment imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight.

The NES Classic Mini cost £50 at retail - an incredibly cheap price considering how many games were bundled.

Soon after its release, the console became a hit and was one of the hottest gifts previous year.

But back to the SNES mini, assuming the accuracy of Eurogamer's report, then yes, of course Nintendo needs to rethink its approach to supply. That left Nintendo in the unenviable position of being forced to announce the NES Mini discontinuation now, before consumers naturally noticed that restocks simply weren't coming. Fielding both retro consoles as well as the recently released Switch would likely result in overexposure, as the systems would effectively be competing with one another.
