Dallas mayor: Body of suspected shooter found in home

First responder shot during active shooter situation in Dallas

The commander says Brown fired at responding officers trying to help paramedic William An (Ahn). The resident who was also shot is in ICU, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said. The paramedic, who was taken to Baylor University Medical Center, will have to undergo more surgeries.

Rawlings says the injured paramedic and the wounded citizen are in the intensive care unit at a local hospital.

Four of the slain officers were members of the city's police department, while the fifth was an officer with the Dallas transit agency.

The paramedic was a veteran emergency responder of 11 years.

However, police have now said that when paramedics arrived, they found a man on the ground outside the home who'd been shot.

It all began at about 11:30 a.m. when the firefighter was called to a home in the 3200 block of Reynolds Avenue, near Dolphin Road and Interstate 30. When the first officers arrived, the suspect approached and opened fire.

The sergeant then put the medic in his patrol auto and drove him to the Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, saving the medic's life, Pughes said.

While still under fire, a Dallas Police Sergeant Robert Watson rescued An and took him to the hospital.

The FBI is assisting Dallas Police in the investigation, according to FBI spokeswoman Lauren Hagee.

Regardless, we're sure the victim ( Kenneth Mosher)'s family would like some answers about what exactly caused this fatal crash. Officers have searched for him and he was in no point of cooperating with the law enforcers with the investigation.

UPDATE 1:05 p.m.: NBCDFW reports the area where the shooting took place is consistently listed as one of the most risky areas in Dallas.

Brown's girlfriend ran out of the house, and a neighbor came outside, Blankenbaker said.

While the medical examiner has not released the name of the second person who died, Johnny Wolf says he lost his close friend. SWAT was called in, and a police robot was sent into the house where they believed the man was hiding, he said.

A Dallas paramedic was shot and injured after responding to a shooting today, and the suspected gunman is still at-large, authorities said.

Investigators learned that Derick Lamont Brown, 36, was "acting erratically" at his home Monday morning, said Assistant Chief Randy Blankenbaker.

Pughes said it is believed the gunman was in the street shooting when the first unit arrived.

A Dallas police officer who suffered a minor injury in the shooting was treated at the scene and released.

Interim Police Chief David Pughes from the Dallas Police Department stated that late into Monday night, police were still interviewing witnesses and neighbors.
