Neymar ordered to stand trial over Barcelona move

Neymar scored two in the closing minutes

Brazilian forward Neymar has been cleared of fraud but still faces a corruption trial in Spain in connection with the value of his 2013 transfer from Santos to Barcelona, the Spanish National High Court said on Thursday.

The defendants in the trial will be the player, his parents, current and formerBarcelonapresidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, FC Barcelona and NN Consultoria, the company Neymar started with his family, according to a court statement.

His arrival from Santos has been a huge success for the Spanish champions on the pitch but a judicial nightmare off it.

Barcelona originally published the transfer figure as €57.1m, with €40m of that given to the player's family and the rest to Santos.

But Spanish authorities believe the real transfer fee was at least €83m euros (£70.3m). However, in Spain sentences of less than two years are often suspended for first-time offenders.

Warner ton fires Sunrisers past KKR
With a strike rate of 178 and average of 82, the Kiwi captain is certainly the most impactful player of SRH team now. Siraj has exploited the conditions well and has extracted out whatever purchase that there has been available.

The case came into light when a complaint was filed by Brazilian supermarket firm DIS, which owned 40 percent of Neymar's transfer rights.

The transfer in 2013 has been under the microscope for many years with Neymar, his parents, Barcelona and Santos accused of lying about the true transfer fee paid.

The decision to order Neymar to stand trial is a blow to the Brazilian's image and that of Barcelona.

Barcelona have already been hit with a 5.5 million euro ($NZ8.7m) fine due to tax irregularities in the deal. Last year, superstar Lionel Messi was handed a 21-month suspended sentence for tax fraud.

Neymar signed a bumper new deal with the club to extend his contract until 2021 in July 2016 despite admitting he held talks with Paris Saint-Germain amidst interest from a host of top European clubs in luring him away.
