Head of IS in Afghanistan killed, confirms USA and Afghan officials

Afghan and United States forces have confirmed Sheikh Abdul Hasib, the leader of (ISIS-K) in Afghanistan, was killed in a combined raid in eastern Nangarhar province on April 27.

As part of a growing effort against the terror group, the Afghan Air Force has also recently geared strikes toward ISIS hideouts in Nazyan and Achin districts.

That's the same area where the terror group's top local commander was killed by Afghan and USA military forces in April.

Logari was among several high-ranking ISIS leaders in Afghanistan who died in the raid carried out by Afghan Special Security Forces in partnership with USA forces, the Pentagon said in a statement.

Abdul Hasib's death was confirmed Sunday by U.S. Forces - Afghanistan.

US officials told The Washington Post the new plan expands the USA military role in Afghanistan to stem an increasingly confident and resurgent Taliban to force it back to the negotiating table with the Afghan government.

The raid came eight months after the previous ISIS-K leader, or emir, Hafiz Saeed, was killed in a USA drone strike.

Romelu Lukaku hits out at transfer talk
The report stated Lukaku is torn between a move to Chelsea or Old Trafford and is keen to play under United's former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

"This is the second ISIS-K emir we have killed in nine months, along with dozens of their leaders and hundreds of their fighters", Nicholson added.

U.S. and Afghan special forces, backed by drone strikes and other air support, have waged a series of operations against ISIS-K since March, killing dozens of their militants, mainly in Nangarhar, on the border with Pakistan. Hasib, appointed a year ago after his predecessor Hafiz Saeed Khan died in a USA drone strike.

Fox News noted that Hasib is suspected of organizing an attack on an Afghanistan hospital on March 8.

"He was responsible for ordering the attack on the 400-bed hospital in Kabul, kidnapped girls and beheaded elders in front of their families", the President's office said. "With our Afghan partners, we've been able to reduce that territory significantly and inflict heavy casualties on them to include killing their leaders", Nicholson said at the time, adding that the majority of the high-profile attacks in Afghanistan are carried out by the Haqqani network, which operates from across the border in Pakistan.

It was the third major blow in recent months to the Islamic State in Khorasan, or ISIS-K, the regional branch of the Sunni extremist militia.

During the operation on April 27, two U.S. Army Rangers were accidentally killed by friendly fire during the more than three-hour fight.

The majority of the ISIS-K members are disgruntled Taliban fighters from the group's offshoot in Afghanistan and Pakistan, with most belonging the Pakistani faction, the US military has said.
