The 20 Most Popular Baby Girl Names in America

Business Insider Andy Kiersz data from SSA

Emma and Noah are the United States' most popular baby names, according to a new report from the Social Security Administration.

The most popular baby names of 2016 are out - just in time for Mother's Day. Following close behind are Olivia, Ava, Sophia and Isabella.

The top 10 boys names for 2016 in order are: Noah, Liam, William, Mason, James, Benjamin, Jacob, Michael, Elijah and Ethan. Frankie, Ayan, Camren, Deshawn and Jayvion were the least popular names for boys in 2016 while Janiya, Jocelynn, Libby, Princess and Sidney ranked the lowest for girls. The name has been decreasing in popularity since 2000.

In 1934, when Donald hit its apex as a name for American boys, 30,406 babies were named Donald.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn at the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston-on-Sea, Great Yarmouth, during the campaign trail. Meanwhile, Armed Forces Minister Mike Penning said Mr Corbyn is "pretending he's got what it takes to keep us safe".

Kehlani holds the highest popularity increase for female births from 2015 to 2016, up 2,487 spots to 872. She was nominated for a Grammy in 2016 for her album "You Should Be Here". In fact, the four names that dropped the most were all variations of the same name: Caitlin, Caitlyn, Katelynn and Kaitlynn. While it's hard to believe there isn't a certain amount of transphobia behind this sudden drop, Laura Wattenburg, the founder of BabyNameWizard.com, claims the fall is not a result of prejudice, but an attempt to steer clear of controversy.

Last year, it fell 542 spots - the biggest drop of any name - to No. 1,151. "Caitlyn was already falling in popularity".

Although the name Donald is apparently growing in dislike among parents, the name Hillary didn't even make it on the Social Security Administration most recent list, which was released Friday. "Now it is suddenly controversial". Hillary, the first name of Trump's Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton, has not been in the top 1,000 since 2009.
