Moscow says US coalition strikes on Syrian forces 'unacceptable'

Islamic State attacks Syrian state-held areas, 31 killed

US -led warplanes carried out on May 18 a strike in the east of the country against a convoy of pro-government forces headed towards a remote coalition garrison near the border with Jordan.

"They were building a fighting position" about 55 kilometers from a US -coalition base close to At Tanf, where advisers train members of the Syrian Democratic Forces and Syrian Arab Coalition, the second official said.

A Syrian opposition media group, the Palmyra News Network, said there were casualties from the attack, which destroyed a number of vehicles.

The convoy approached a USA and coalition complex used to train Syrian forces and got within 29 kilometers of the base around midnight EDT on Thursday, reported CNN.

A CNN reporter in Washington that was briefed by U.S. officials said a convoy of 20 pro-regime vehicles was headed toward Al-Tanf on Wednesday vehicles, searching vehicles and buildings along the way.

Both the USA and Russian Federation, which is allied with the pro-Assad forces, have established buffer zones around their separate areas of operation to avoid collateral damage.

Jose Mourinho already has Europa League final squad in mind
The former Germany captain recently spoke of his frustration at playing at a lower level of football. Winning that competition carries entry into the Champions League group stages.

The airstrike is at least the third time that United States forces have fired on forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Syria's increasingly crowded war zone.

The coalition strikes reportedly occurred near At Tanf town, where US' and British special operations forces have been training Syrian rebel fighters near the border with Iraq and Jordan. That was followed by a "show of force" by aircraft overhead and warning shots, the officials said. In April, National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster declared that Moscow's continued support for Assad and other regional forces "clearly cut against Russian interest [s]".

"Such actions that were carried out against the Syrian armed forces. this is completely unacceptable".

The Syrian Observatory said most of the eight people killed in the strikes appeared to be "non-Syrian".

The Syrian regime claimed the bombardment killed a number of people and said it revealed the "falseness" of the coalition's claim to be exclusively fighting Islamic State (IS) in the war-torn country. "Trump does not have Congressional authorization to attack Syria, a country that has not attacked United States". Last summer, Syrian fighters trained by the USA who operated out of al-Tanf were bombed by Russian jets. An earlier chemical weapons attack that killed more than 80 civilians is thought to have been launched from there.
