Spicer: Sally Yates Was A "Strong Supporter" Of Hillary Clinton

President Barack Obama shakes hands with then President-elect Donald Trump in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington. President Barack Obama warned Donald Trump against hiring Michael Flynn as national

Monday's revelation from Obama administration officials came hours before former acting Attorney General Sally Yates and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper testified before a Senate panel investigating the Russian election interference.

Yates testified that she reached out to and met with White House Counsel Donald McGahn about Flynn, who was sacked in February for misleading Vice President Mike Pence about his conversations with the Russian ambassador to the United States. "The Russia-Trump collusion story is a total hoax, when will this taxpayer funded charade end?" fumed one post, while in a second, the president targeted Ms Yates, claiming she had "said nothing but old news!" after earlier assailing her for allegedly leaking classified information.

First, Yates explained to him, it mattered that Flynn "lied to the vice president and others", because, as a effect, "the American public had been misled".

The Trump administration fired Yates not long after, when she declined to enforce the president's Muslim ban, believing it to be unlawful.

Flynn's discussions with the Russian envoy have been scrutinized as part of an FBI and multiple congressional investigations into possible ties between Trump's campaign and Russia's meddling in last year's election.

What Spicer aimed to do in Tuesday's briefing was cast Yates as a bitter partisan that the Trump White House was right to distrust.

Spicer described Yates, who was an Obama appointee, as "someone who is not exactly a supporter of the president's agenda".

Spicer added that he was not aware of any security restrictions placed on Flynn after the warning.

5 ways to become a smaller target for ransomware hackers
The UK government called a meeting of its crisis response committee, known as Cobra, to discuss how to handle the situation. The company did issue a patch for Windows XP, but has otherwise largely stopped issuing updates for the software.

Former national security adviser Michael Flynn resigned after reports that he misled Vice President Pence about a call between him and Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

In the hearing, former CIA Director James Clapper and Yates were questioned about evidence of possible collusion between Trump associates and Russian Federation.

It had the makings of a Cold War whodunit: The attorney general tells the White House that the Russians have "kompromat" on the president's national security adviser - but the president, for reasons unclear, stands by the compromised official.

Over the next several days, Yates proved that she was hostile to the President's agenda and was terminated.

It is hard to convey the level of alarm this would raise in the mind of the chief law enforcement officer of the United States - which Yates was, briefly, before President Donald Trump fired her at the end of January - or the fear it would inflict at the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"President Obama's former Director of National Intelligence and his former acting CIA Director have both said they have seen no evidence of collusion". "To state the obvious, you don't want the national security adviser compromised by the Russians". Spicer later denied that Yates showed serious worry about Flynn's call, and said she simply gave "a heads up" about it.

- Matt Viser (@mviser) May 9, 2017Spicer won't detail why Trump kept Flynn on the job for 11 days between WH seeing Yates evidence & Flynn axing but "we did the right thing".

Spicer also addressed questions about Sen. This could not have comforted the White House counsel.
