Trump promotes his goal of Middle East peace, offers no details

Ivanka terms Saudi visit ‘amazing and historic

He also met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The announcement comes just days after Netanyahu personally greeted US President Donald Trump on his first visit to Israel.

Bethlehem/Jerusalem: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that he is committed "to do everything" to achieve Israel-Palestinian peace deal but made it clear that "peace can not take root in an environment where violence is tolerated, funded and even rewarded".

U.S. President Donald Trump extended his condolences on Tuesday to the victims of the Manchester suicide bombing that killed 22 people and said those behind the attack were "evil losers".

He became the first sitting United States president to visit the site in the Israeli-annexed east of the city.

"I would like to reiterate our commitment to cooperate with you in order to make peace and forge an historic peace deal with the Israelis", he said, speaking through an interpreter.

The weight of gravity in Israeli politics has shifted dramatically rightward in the last two decades, probably because of Israeli disillusionment over the prospects for a land-for-peace deal given the continued violence, especially coming out of post-withdrawal Gaza.

But both Netanyahu and Abbas face domestic political challenges.

Modi inaugurates India's longest river bridge in Assam
Till now, the only means to cross the Brahmaputra at this location has been by ferry, that too only in day-time. It will open up doors for economic development. "New waterways will start from here", the prime minister said.

He'll close his ambitious first foreign trip at a pair of summits in Brussels and Sicily, where his reception from European leaders may be less effusive than his welcome in Israel and Saudi Arabia, his opening stop on the trip.

"The United States and Israel can declare with one voice that Iran must never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon, never ever, and must cease its deadly funding, training and equipping of terrorists and militias, and it must cease immediately", Trump said at the press conference. If negotiations were to resume, they needed to be about the core issues, not talks about talks, he said.

Trump earned a warm welcome from the Israelis and the Palestinians, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made it clear during the trip that he preferred Trump to his predecessor, Barack Obama, whom he believed pressured Israel too much.

Security was tight for Trump's journey to Bethlehem, a 20-minute drive from Jerusalem but located across Israel's separation wall.

In a speech on Tuesday at the Israel Museum, Mr. Trump proclaimed that the "Palestinians are ready to reach for peace", adding that Mr. Netanyahu also "wants peace".

A boy wrapped with Israel's national flag is seen during a parade marking Jerusalem Day, the day in the Jewish calendar when Israel captured East Jerusalem and the Old City from Jordan during the 1967 Middle East War.

Trump and Netanyahu in particular lavished praise on each other during their multiple meetings. The former US administration of Barack Obama was deeply opposed to Israel's expansion of the settlements and in December withheld its veto from a U.N. Security Council resolution condemning the policy.

Israel claims Jerusalem as its capital, but Palestinians insist that the city's mostly Arab eastern part be the capital of any future state.
