Trump won't block Comey's testimony in Russia hearing, White House says

Trump Won't Block James Comey's Testimony Before Congress

The White House says President Donald Trump will not assert executive privilege to try to block testimony by fired FBI Director James Comey.

Earlier, the White House had said that Trump was considering the use of executive privilege to halt Comey's testimony, essentially arguing that he is afforded an expectation of privacy in conversations he may have had with a government official.

Comey is also likely to be asked by lawmakers about Trump's assertion that the former FBI chief told him three times that he was not under investigation as part of the federal probe into his campaign's possible Russian Federation ties.

President Donald Trump arrives to speak at an Air Traffic Control Reform Initiative event in the East Room at the White House, Monday, June 5, 2017, in Washington. Senators plan to ask Comey about those memos on Thursday.

Legal experts have also said that the president is likely to have undermined his ability to assert executive privilege by publicly discussing his dealings with Mr Comey in tweets and interviews.

It has been reported that Comey plans to talk about conversations in which Trump pressured him to drop his investigation into former national security advisor Mike Flynn, who was sacked for failing to disclose conversations with Russian officials.

With Ryu's streak ended, Stacy Lewis becomes the tour's active leader in consecutive cuts made, with 49, including this event. I couldn't get my wedges in close at all, so I spent a lot of time on the range afterwards just working on my wedge game".

The New York Times first reported the memo, which was confirmed to ABC News by a source close to Comey. Someone can assert executive privilege if he or she doesn't want to testify, but we don't know whether the president can assert executive privilege to prevent someone who wants to testify from testifying.

This kind of an order or request can be interpreted by authorities as obstruction of justice which could have carried repercussions for Trump, especially as he sacked Comey thereafter.

Spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said the president's power to invoke privilege is "well-established".

On Wednesday, the House Intelligence Committee issued subpoenas for Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen and Flynn- who was also allegedly part of discussions between the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner and Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak.

"So I think it will be important for both Republicans and Democrats to ask really good questions", The Federalist writer said.
