May says ready to curb human rights laws to fight extremism

It also says: "We will remain signatories to the European Convention of Human Rights for the duration of the next parliament".

The civil and human rights organisation Liberty, has warned that Theresa May could "hand terrorists their greatest victory" if she changes human rights laws to tackle terror suspects.

"We will not defeat terrorism by ripping up our basic rights and democracy. but by our communities, our vigilance and by police action to isolate and detain those who would wish us harm", he said, responding to May's comments.

"And the minute we start throwing away our rights and our freedoms as a society is the moment we start to let the terrorists win".

Tory sources deny that flatly, saying they would not pull out of the European Convention on Human Rights but instead, seek fresh derogations - essentially legal opt-outs.

Speaking on Sunday evening he said: "You can not protect the public on the cheap".

"This is exactly the time that human rights must be protected and cherished, not attacked and undermined".

British Prime Minister Theresa May said on Tuesday she would be willing to weaken human rights protections to make it easier to deport or curb the movements of suspected militants when there is not enough evidence to prosecute.

Last Saturday's attack on London Bridge, which left seven dead and 48 injured, appears to be the last straw for May, following the previous attacks at a pop concert in Manchester and another near Westminster earlier this year.

United States and Japan stage military exercises in Sea of Japan
Washington and Seoul already have established operation plans made on the assumption of all-out war with Pyongyang. Japan has also been pushing to increase pressure on Pyongyang through working with other countries.

"The right response to the recent attacks is to halt the Conservative cuts and invest in our police and security services and protect our democratic values, including the Human Rights Act".

'I absolutely recognise people's concerns, ' the premier told Sky News.

In the course of the last few months, three terror attacks hit the United Kingdom.

"I don't think we should introduce a state of emergency ... we have to keep our feet on the ground", he said. "We will look at how the processes were followed, what they did".

May also proposed limiting "the freedom and movement of terrorism suspects when we have enough evidence to know they are a threat but not enough to prosecute them in full in court".

"And if human rights laws stop us from doing it, we will change those laws so we can do it", she added.

The prime minister and her Labour Party opponent, Jeremy Corbyn, set out on whistle-stop tours of the country ahead of Thursday's vote, with polls all showing May's Conservatives ahead but disagreeing about whether the race is close.

Mr Khan said the force stood to lose between 3,400 and 12,800 constables, a reduction in strength of ten to 40 per cent, making it harder to foil future terrorist atrocities.

"A new approach may be needed through the expert knowledge of global lawyers to develop a solution by defining the word "risk" in the convention so that governments are given a duty to protect the population against the interests of the individual, and the balance of evidence for this is not the same weighting that is used now in the courts".
