Man Utd to confirm on Friday Zlatan has been released

Zlatan Ibrahimovic Paul Pogba

According to the Daily Telegraph, talks are already underway for United to sign the Spain global as Ibrahimovic's departure should be all but confirmed tomorrow with his name to be left off a list of players retained by the club.

Manchester United reportedly decide against offering 35-year-old striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic a new contract extension at the club.

The sources said United have decided it does not make economic sense to continue to pay Ibrahimovic reported wages of more than £300,000-a-week with no prospect of him playing for at least the first five months of the season.

The Swedish worldwide signed on a one-year deal last season with the option of a second, but it is being reported that he will need to find a new club or retire.

Dufner leads at midpoint of Memorial Tournament
Dufner had a pair of three-putts, and he twice missed birdie putts from 6 feet. "I've never walked through this door", he said. It was a tough day, too, for former world number one Jason Day, who had six bogeys and three birdies in a three-over 75.

However, Ibrahimovic was brought in to do one thing at United, not necessarily score goals or win games but to bring back an air of arrogance, swagger and a ruthless streak to a side which has fallen well down from it's pedestal in recent years. He not only scored the victor late in the Community Shield, but scored late on to seal the EFL Cup against Southampton.

Then there is the expense of retaining the highly-paid striker at a club that he will be unable to play for during half the campaign.

That has caused United to alter their summer transfer intentions and focus their search on a central striking option as opposed to a No10, which saw the club drop their interest in Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann last month.
