Bill Maher apologises for N-word slur: 'I did a bad thing'

Michael Eric Dyson talking

The comedian made it known that the use of the word was "wrong" and that it was "a mistake" comparing it to a quarterback throwing an interception.

The Michael Eric Dyson Maher was referring to is a professor of sociology at Georgetown University and a frequent "Real Time" guest through the years. But on Friday, the political satirists found himself apologizing to the black community for his regrettable use of the n-word. "You know, you've got a lot of black jokes".

But Dyson wasn't the only one who responded to Maher's racial remark on Real Time Friday night. Ben Sasse (R-NE) during last week's broadcast of his program.

To which Maher then said: 'Work in the fields? "Senator, I'm a house n****r".

Maher added that, "It doesn't matter if it was said in malice".

Dyson spoke with Maher at length about the history and weight of that word that still lingers today. "I am against that".

Oil slides as USA climate withdrawal compounds glut concerns
The U.S. rig count rose by 11 to 733, extending a year-long drilling recovery to the highest level since April 2015. Crude closed down more than 1 percent on Friday for a second straight week of losses, on worries that U.S.

The rapper-actor used a chunk of his time as a guest on the HBO gabfest to both admonish and educate Maher about the host's recent N-word transgression. But he said a weird thing. "I remember when Mitt Romney was running, he had a book, 'No Apologies.' Like Americans should never apologize". You got a great show.

Dyson told Maher that with today's "resurgence" of racism - he referenced Steve Bannon and Jeff Sessions - it's even more important for Maher to fight the "unconscious reflex".

He continued, "We're all evolving".

And in his own statement, Maher said, "Friday nights are always my worst night of sleep because I'm up reflecting on the things I should or shouldn't have said on my live show". He said that Maher was on the "front line" in pointing that out. Dyson said Bill's not a racist.it's just another example of "white privilege". But he said a weird thing, the comic mind goes to a weird place sometimes. "Comedians are a special kind of monkey". "But I still think we need to get to the root of the psyche", Cube said.

The host then joked that fellow comedian Kathy Griffin, who was sacked from CNN recently for a controversial photoshoot in which she held a mask of President Donald Trump's decapitated head, owes him a "fruit basket for keeping her off the front page".
