Kane rescues draw for England against Scotland in qualifying

GLASGOW, June 10 Scotland were seconds away from beating the "old enemy" England in their World Cup qualifier on Saturday but despite ending up with a 2-2 draw manager Gordon Strachan had only words of admiration for his players.

Southgate's men were staring down the barrel of their first defeat in 2018 World Cup qualifying after Leigh Griffiths' pair of late free-kicks had cancelled out Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's 70th-minute opener.

The Tottenham Hotspur player's goal was a face-saver for England after Leigh Griffiths had struck twice for the home side in the final three minutes.

It kept an unimpressive England on course for next summer's World Cup in Russian Federation and dealt a savage blow to Scotland's already dwindling chances, BBC reports.

"I think it is a huge moment for the team".

"Today we've done that".

Dufner leads at midpoint of Memorial Tournament
Dufner had a pair of three-putts, and he twice missed birdie putts from 6 feet. "I've never walked through this door", he said. It was a tough day, too, for former world number one Jason Day, who had six bogeys and three birdies in a three-over 75.

"The end for me is a significant moment because the character of the team has to come through in these moments", said England manager Gareth Southgate, whose side face France in a friendly in Paris on Tuesday. And they keep coming back again.

"Two moments of brilliant quality from them turn it on its head in seconds but we should never be beaten".

"I heard a noise after that that I've never heard anything like before".

"We got ourselves into decent positions and didn't quite finish but the objective's to qualify and we still sit top of the group".

"But we played a team with five at the back, tried to frustrate which is understandable from their point of view. That was beyond the call of duty and there is no-one here who knows how it hard is to play against those players on a day like that", he added. Before the game we would have taken the point but it was just the way it happened, but that's football for you.

"You try to protect yourself from the excitement but when we equalised I didn't, because that could have been my best result as a manger". "It is annoying for them to do so much and have a result that could have been one of the best results ever".
