New Zealand post 265/8 against Bangladesh

Tamim has scored 128 and 95 in the two encounters in the ICC Champions Trophy

A 224-run partnership scored between Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah saw Bangladesh produce a shock against New Zealand in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy today.

However, Shakib and Mahmudullah staged a spirited fight back as they shared a massive 178-run partnership for the fourth wicket to guide Bangladesh past the target with 16 balls to spare.

Bangladesh, chasing a modest 266 for victory, had collapsed to 12 for three when left-hander Shakib (114) came in.

The victory gave Bangladesh three points in the group, and they will progress if already-qualified England beat Australia at Edgbaston on Saturday. A defeat would leave them bottom of the group and out of the competition, whilst a victory would ensure qualification if England beat Australia in the final group game.

Bangladesh will be praying that England beat Australia at Edgbaston tomorrow (or indeed for Australia to be part of a third consecutive rained-out affair) and then they will play the victor of Sunday's South Africa vs India game, in a knockout match for a spot in the final.

Mosaddek Hossain was the pick of the Bangladeshi bowlers as he claimed three wickets for 13 runs in just three overs.

At 152-3, New Zealand still found themselves in a healthy position before Taylor added to the score with a partnership of 49 alongside Neil Broom. Overall, this was the 10th win for Bangladesh against New Zealand, their most against top-eight teams.

Near-perfect Kiwis take control of America's Cup qualifiers
Emirates Team New Zealand recovered superbly to close the deficit completely by gate 3 as the teams headed into the turn together. Oracle started that series down two points after being penalized for the biggest cheating scandal in America's Cup history.

The Kiwis barely saw out their 50 overs, as they lost six wickets for only 64 runs in nearly 12 overs at the end after winning the toss and choosing to bat first.

Bangladesh's Tamim Iqbal also started the tournament with a century, against England, before making 95 against Australia. Twelve years later, in a toe-to-toe battle with New Zealand at the same ground, Bangladesh staged a comeback for the ages, winning by five wickets after being blown away by their pace attack.

"When it's not seaming and it's not swinging, obviously we need to look at different measures", New Zealand paceman Trent Boult told reporters at Cardiff on Thursday. Not much later, Guptill was trapped plumb in front of the stumps by Rubel Hossain.

In the first of those clashes in Group A, New Zealand took on Bangladesh in Cardiff. It was to be the introduction of third bowler Taskin Ahmed that turned the tide as his consistent line and length caused problems for the New Zealand batsmen as they failed to get bat to ball on numerous occasions.

Opener Martin Guptill was in excellent touch after the match started an hour late due to rain and drove Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza for six. Shakib brought up his hundred by sending the ball over the fine-leg boundary for six off Adam Milne.

"It was frustrating to be on the other side of it, we wanted to come into this game firing but we didn't play our best cricket, we left a few runs out there", Williamson said.
