Hawaii Signs Legislation To Implement Goals Of Paris Climate Accord Anyway

Following President Donald Trump's announcement withdrawing the United States from the Paris Agreement, some politicians are taking a stand and making their own commitments to fight climate change. NPR reports the bill was signed Tuesday by Gov. David Ige.

Tin Ponlok, secretary general of the National Council for Sustainable Development at the Ministry of Environment, said it was "regretful" that Trump made a decision to abandon the agreement. He says he was motivated by the signs of climate change he sees daily in Hawaii: "Tides are getting higher, biodiversity is shrinking, coral is bleaching, coastlines are eroding, weather is becoming more extreme".

Hawaii's new legislation includes a bill that expands the state's plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to align with the Paris Agreement. Much of the bill's language makes reference to the worldwide scope of the problem, and celebrates that almost every country on earth came together to dedicate resources to fighting climate change.

"Hawai'i and other Pacific Islands are already experiencing the impact of rising sea levels and natural disasters". As The Two-Way reported, he stated that the agreement gives other countries "an economic edge over the United States". They also target agricultural practices with the goals of improving soil health and removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, according to a statement from the governor's office.

Hillary Refuses to Take Blame for Election Loss
The GOP used a firmer grasp of various forms of media to the advantage of its candidates, she said. Trump tweeted shortly before 1 a.m. that "Despite the constant negative press covfefe ".

Trump had said: "Even if the Paris Agreement were implemented in full-with total compliance from all nations-it is estimated it would only produce a two-tenths of one degree Celsius reduction in global temperature by the year 2100". Hawaii is joining at least 12 other states that have formed the U.S. Climate Alliance and promised to remain committed to the goals in the Paris deal. Unfortunately, that appears to be where President Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris climate accord has landed us.

Fortunately for anyone who cares about the environmental health of the planet and actually takes climate change seriously ― rather than, say, believing it's a Chinese hoax, or that the other Paris signatories were only happy with the deal because it screwed over the US ― the long, slow withdrawal process means this could still be a viable issue in a 2020 presidential campaign.

"The hostile policy of the USA against the DPRK has grown so unreasonable and reckless today that they are even coercing other countries to sacrifice their relations with the DPRK under the pretext of ensuring the U.S security".
