Bill Cosby's sexual assault case ends in mistrial

Bill Cosby favoured to walk after retrial, but new jury may be more eager to convict

When asked about Cosby's statement during a press conference, Montgomery County, PA District Attorney Kevin Steele responded, "I'm not going to talk about Camille Cosby". She woke up the next morning in his home with her sweater bunched up and her bra undone, the affidavit says. "She's entitled to a verdict in this case".

Prosecutors had asked to have 13 other women testify to bolster their allegation that Cosby had a history of drugging and molesting women, but Judge O'Neill allowed just one to take the stand. Barbara Ashcroft, who directs the trial advocacy program at Temple University's Beasley School of Law, doubts O'Neill would change his mind.

Constand's 2004 encounter with Cosby at his suburban Philadelphia estate was the only one to result in criminal charges. She says he gave her three blue pills to help her relax and that she became woozy.

"She's ready to go again", said her lawyer, Dolores Troiani, of a retrial.

'We can never underestimate the blinding power of celebrity, but justice will come, ' she warned.

The case involving Constand followed a long path to prosecution.

Judge Steven O'Neill leaves the courtroom following his decision in the Bill Cosby sexual assault trial at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown, Pa., Saturday, June 17, 2017.

Cosby's team declared victory and went on the attack.

However, the Montgomery County DA tweeted minutes after the announcement that they would pick a new jury and try again.

Hawaii Signs Legislation To Implement Goals Of Paris Climate Accord Anyway
Unfortunately, that appears to be where President Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris climate accord has landed us. As The Two-Way reported , he stated that the agreement gives other countries "an economic edge over the United States".

Media outlets are urging a judge to make the names public.

"How do I describe the district attorney? Overtly arrogant, collaborating with the district attorney", she said in her statement, which was tweeted by her husband and read by an associate of the public relations firm representing Cosby. Cosby, who turns 80 in July, is free on $1 million bond. "It has been restored". However, it is somewhat disappointing that he chose to mention the Cosby case and fail to focus on what many find to be most problematic about the mistrial.

He even has the distinction of breaking the Hollywood color barrier by becoming the first black man to star in a TV drama series, I Spy in 1965.

Prosecutors immediately said they would seek a retrial. Prosecutors have suggested he might have given her quaaludes, a highly popular party drug in the 1970s that was banned in the U.S.in 1982. It's unclear how many jurors voted for conviction and how many wanted an acquittal. On Saturday morning, all jurors agreed that there was "hopeless deadlock that can not be resolved on further deliberations", BuzzFeed News reported.

Steele, who is a career prosecutor, will have insights in the retrial that he did not have in the first trial: He and his key witnesses have now gotten a detailed view of the defense team's strategy and its methods of handling cross-examinations.

The jury must come to a unanimous decision to convict or acquit. None of the jurors commented after the trial ended and headed home to the Pittsburgh area, some 300 miles (483 kilometers) from the courthouse outside Philadelphia.

"We commend those prosecutors who raised awareness that one of the hallmarks of drug-related sexual assaults is the effect the drug has on the victim's memory and ability to recall and were nonetheless willing to present this evidence to the jury", she said in a statement that her attorneys released to USA media.

Cosby was eventually charged in December 2015, just days before the statute of limitations was set to expire.
