Family recalls loving nature of Seattle mom killed by police

Seattle PD public affairs

Lyles' killing has prompted outrage among many, including her family, who questioned why the officers couldn't use nonlethal methods to subdue the diminutive 30-year-old and suggested that race played a role.

Lyles had previous run-ins with law enforcement, including an arrest almost two weeks before she was killed and another in 2014 for assault. It seems that Merrick Bobb, the federal monitor overseeing Seattle police reforms, needs to reopen his investigation.

Even if he had brought the Taser, Anderson maintains in police transcripts it would not have been the "appropriate" tool for handling Lyles' abrupt and seemingly violent outburst toward the officers. But it suddenly escalated with the officers saying "get back" repeatedly. "... Our hearts go out to Charleena Lyles' family and certainly, most of all, her children", Whitcomb said in the stream.

Two police officers, identified as Steven McNew and Jason Anderson, responded to her call.

Surveillance video released Thursday from the hallway outside Charleena Lyles' apartment shows that she never left her home and no one entered in the 24 hours before Sunday's police shooting that left the pregnant mother dead, Seattle police said. She told him that she had left about two to three hours ago and when she came back, the door was open. But she also anxious they would be taken from her because an abusive ex-boyfriend, the father of the youngest children, was causing problems for her.

UCLA Basketball's Lonzo Ball selected 2nd by the Los Angeles Lakers
Comparisons to Jason Kidd have followed Ball since high school, and his continued improvement has strengthened its validity. With the Lakers, University of Los Angeles guard Lonzo Ball potentially represents what the Lakers have been seeking.

Anderson said the conversation with Lyles began normally, involving what was missing in the apartment, before Lyles drew the knife as her "face changed completely".

Lyles had struggled with mental-health issues, according to her family and court records. Shots were heard in the audio.

She had called police that morning to report a break-in. Some questioned why non-lethal options weren't used in the case.

After an online outcry, a Seattle Police Department video in which an officer playing a video game discussed the recent fatal police shooting of a pregnant mother has been removed from social media.

After the shooting, McNew said, 'one of the little babies crawls out from behind and right on top of her, her upper body, you know resting his head against her'.
