PM prepares for G20 summit

Vladimir Putin

Hamburg police skirmished with protesters ahead of this week's Group of 20 summit, days before world leaders gather for the meeting hosted by Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Trump won't be the only challenging guest at the summit Friday and Saturday in Hamburg, which will also include Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The G20 summit is where US President Donald Trump will make his first visit to Germany.

Heightened safety restrictions have been placed on all military sites in the surrounding Hamburg region from July 5 to July 9 as they are "exposed to an increased risk of blockade and spontaneous demonstrations", the memo said.

German police have removed several tents of people protesting the Group of 20 (G20) summit in Altona district of Hamburg, used water cannon and pepper spray against them, German Press Agency (DPA) reported on Wednesday.

A fractious first North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit with Trump also left European allies wondering where the military alliance goes next.

High-level US diplomat Thomas Shannon met on Monday with Russia's ambassador to Washington, Sergey Kislyak, to prepare for the Trump-Putin meeting, the State Department said.

No request yet from Trump election fraud commission
There is no evidence that the integrity of the 2016 election in Maryland - or any other state- was compromised by voter fraud. He said the state routinely sells the information to political parties, candidates and researchers.

The summit comes at time of heightened political tension, with the United States president at odds with many other G20 leaders on issues from the Paris climate accord to trade and steel imports.

German authorities are bracing for trouble in Hamburg as they are anxious that the protests could turn violent. In an apparent compromise between the city's stance and Germany's right to free assembly, the protesters were allowed to set up tents, but only for political campaigning.

Officials have said as many as 8,000 demonstrators, including many intent on violence, are likely to converge on the city for the two-day summit.

The G20 meeting follows a G7 summit in Sicily a month ago that exposed deep divisions between the United States and other countries on climate change, trade and migration.

The two leaders have also clashed over Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.

Germany has deployed some 20,000 police officers to protect the event and the government has said that violent protests will not be welcome in the city.
