Trump jets off to Europe for G-20, face-to-face with Putin

A poster in Warsaw's Krasinski Square depicts President Trump on July 3.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who departs for Poland Wednesday, is due to meet Eastern European leaders in Warsaw before speaking in the center of the Polish capital, in what will be his first major public address in Europe.

Things are even worse for Trump in the United Kingdom, as Pew's survey found just 22 percent of United Kingdom citizens had confidence in Trump's leadership, versus 79 percent who felt the same about Obama at the end of his second term.

Some fear that the visit may further widen a fissure between East and West in the European Union, which Mr. Trump has disparaged previously, and embolden leaders like Mr. Kaczynski and Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary, who has been similarly criticized for a light authoritarianism. The visit comes just days ahead of his first ever meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump will be welcomed in Poland by populist leaders who are closely aligned with his worldview and who gained power in 2015 with the same brand of nationalistic, anti-Muslim rhetoric that has put both the new USA leader and the Poles in conflict with leaders in Western Europe.

USA presidents are nearly guaranteed a friendly reception in Poland, and this aspect of the trip will appeal to President Trump and make for good pictures at home.

Trump has a natural ally in Poland's anti-immigrant, pro-catholic ruling party which is also hostile to the media, but he is viewed extremely negatively across much of Europe.

US President Donald Trump lashed out at China Wednesday, pointing to a surge in its trade with North Korea as evidence that US reliance on Beijing to rein in Pyongyang was misplaced.

Testing material from high-rise towers should be done 'urgently', minister says
Ms Gould told us it was hoped the work to remedy the tower block's safety issues would be completed within a month. Landlords should get potentially flammable building materials tested as soon as possible, he added.

Trump then will travel to Hamburg, Germany, for meetings on Thursday and Friday at the G-20 Summit, where he will meet with several European leaders, including Putin in a bilateral meeting.

"The message is that the United States continues to show it's not wedded simply to working with the existing European elites and that it's quite happy" to build ties with governments challenging Brussels on certain issues, Prof Szczerbiak says. "We have a full moral right to say "no", Kaczyński said in a speech broadcast on television.

McMaster added that Trump would "lay out a vision" for "America's future relationship with Europe" in Poland. Asked, as he left the White House, what he would do about North Korea, Trump said only: "We're going to do very well".

The report found that other G20 economies inflicted 52 "hits" against US commercial interests in the first half of 2017, 29% fewer than in the same period previous year, and a similar decline versus 2015.

It is something of a departure for a US president to visit a central European Country before the United Kingdom, France or Germany. Sharing a border with Russian Federation "is of the highest concern for Poland". "And he will call on all nations to take inspiration from the spirit of the Poles as we confront today's challenges".

Trump not only challenged North Atlantic Treaty Organisation in his first foreign trip, he also rejected global warming language at the Group of Seven summit in Italy - a precursor to his decision to exit the Paris climate change agreement.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the host of the Group of 20 meeting of leading economies, has signaled she will not back down on climate and trade.
