Alfred Angelo shutdown leaves New Orleans brides, bridal shops scrambling

Alfred Angelo Bridal store's closing nationwide after company files bankruptcy, Ridgeland store included

"Everyone left one by one with cardboard boxes, plants", said the employee, who asked not to be named.

The website said the company's wedding, bridesmaid and flower girl dresses are available at over 1,400 retailers in the USA and worldwide, as well as more than 60 Alfred Angelo Bridal Signature stores in the U.S. But police were called when customers started banging on the locked doors demanding answers, anxious their special day was going to be ruined.

Dozens of other brides and bridesmaids received similar phone calls. She says there has been speculation in that Facebook group that something was wrong at Alfred Angelo for past three days.

Workers called customers on Thursday, informing them the stores were closing at 8 p.m., and their dress needed to be picked up before then.

A representative of the Glen Burnie store said customers should send them an invoice for what they bought.

However, many others walked out empty-handed.

Chentel Busboom, of Bennington said she already has her wedding dress in hand, but her bridesmaids may be out of luck.

As frustrating as the situation was for the customers, many were concerned for the stores employees.

Alfred Angelo Piccione and Edythe Vincent Piccione co-founded the company in 1933 and sold their dresses and merchandise at 4,000 retailers worldwide.

Mollie Frish, a contract seamstress, has worked at the Alfred Angelo Bridal in Manchester for six years.

"They don't have my dress, and we have to call a lawyer for more information, said one woman".

"I was here last week and nobody said anything", said a teary Jessica Dearing.

"It was super frustrating", she said.

With their original receipt, impacted brides and 'maids will receive 30% off of wedding dresses and 20% off of bridesmaid dresses at David's Bridal-including current promotion prices and clearance prices.

"They've kinda crushed my daughter's dreams, now I don't know what we're going to do".

Other retailers were stepping up to help. She said, the owner also told her she was having trouble getting a hold of anyone with the company and said she would have to close the store.
