Larson loses pole to Truex after inspection

He will start at the rear of the field for Sunday's Cup race.

Larson had raced to the top of the field without his suspended crew chief, Chad Johnston.

Martin Truex Jr. will also start on the front row for the 19th race of the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season. Larson had initially taken first place in Friday's qualifying, but his speed was disallowed after his vehicle failed post-qualifying inspection for an unapproved rear decklid fin.

"I wish I could have him on the box on Sunday, but we will be strong these next few weeks", Larson said.

This year's points leader Martin Truex Jr., has 709 points and three wins and took over the lead thanks to his win last weekend in Kentucky and a penalty assessed against Kyle Larson of Chip Ganassi Racing for a rear brake cooling assembly that didn't meet standards at the same race.

There will be no further penalties for Larson's team.

Apparent blast damages US Air Force recruiting center in Oklahoma
The extent of the damage is still unknown, but images from the aftermath show the blast twisted and opened the office's doors. ATF Special Agent Meredith Davis says the blast is being investigated as a possible act of domestic terrorism.

Seven teams had time deducted from Saturday's final practice for either failing pre-race inspection last week at Kentucky Speedway or pre-qualifying inspection Friday at New Hampshire - or both.

Earlier this week, Larson was penalized 35 points and crew chief Chad Johnston was suspended three races after the vehicle failed post-race inspection at Kentucky. "I don't know. We'll work on it and get it better".

"This is the continuation of what we started in 2015, when we started figuring things out as a group".

It's the fifth career pole for Larson, including four during the current season. "I should close my eyes in Q more often", Johnson tweeted. Furniture Row Racing driver Erik Jones, who will replace Kenseth, starts seventh.

Kyle Busch retained the top speed after 15 minutes, Truex, Hamlin, Johnson, Suarez, Blaney, Kenseth, Elliott, Kurt Busch and Keselowski rounded out the top 10.
